Yes you can swap the idrive unit, the unit itself is the radio lump, however the new unit needs to be coded to your specific chassis number. Easiest thing to do is buy a replacement and send it off to be coded to your car, it's then a staright forward 15 min job to swap out the old unit with new.
I just upgraded from CCC to CIC which involved new screen, idrive controller and unit. I had a guy off eBay recode the new CIC nave unit to my car for me. Updated maps was also included in the price with lifetime FSC code. If you have CCC nav I would seriously consider upgrading to CIC it's so much better to use. |

Yeah the maps and Bluetooth won't work till it's been coded to the car. Some people will come to you and code it while it's in the car, but just as easy to take it out and send it off, the guy I used turned mine around in about 3 days. Good luck with it.
