Testing fuel injectors?

My 2007 335i had index -01 injectors, and two failed, burning out two mosfets. The remaining mosfets were partially shorted, so I sent the computer to a local electronics repair shop to have replacements for all six injectors installed.

I bought six index -12 injectors on ebay. This was 2 years ago. The car sat in the garage for 2 years while I was busy with other things. Last week I decided to finally change the injectors and make the car drivable again. I have protool, and it didn't take long to realize that every injector had the same number on them. I thought it was odd, but programmed it anyway and started the car. I got an "injector not initializing" fault. I did a bunch of other things and tried starting the car and kept getting different faults. I pulled ECU and tested the mosfets, and while the injector mosfets seemed fine, some of the others were starting to go bad. I packed up the ECU and sent it to Boost Monkey to clone it onto a different ECU.

So yesterday I got an email from Boost Monkey saying that they noticed the injectors all had the same code, which was a clear sign that they were counterfeit and I shouldn't use them. How are they counterfeit? Are they just earlier versions of that fuel injector and somebody goes in and re-stamps them with bogus stamps?

Has anyone else fell into this trap?

Also, is there a way to test the injectors and get the actual number from them so you don't blow up your computer? All but one appears to be working just fine. I paid a truck load of money for them- two years ago- and that seller is long gone...... It would be nice to still use them if I can.

Lots of counterfeit injectors on the internet right now. Price is so high, the crooks are doing all kinds of shenanigans to trick the consumer. Some are pretty convincing.

I swapped out mine for a diagnosis thinking they were the problem (index 11s for 12s), and they weren't. So I'm going to send them to iqracesworks for testing and cleaning. Not sure if I'll keep them as backups (given today's prices) or flip them for a quick buck. Either way, consider talking to him about the testing. If they're fakes, however, I agree with Boost Monkey.

If you need someone to test out and service your injectors, let me know. I've been doing work for people on N54 injectors for a while now.....done probably a couple thousand now. I can flow test them, and high pressure leak test the up at 2,000psi or above. Sometimes leaks can be corrected, sometimes they can't.

I saw online that you can perform a resistance test on these injectors to see if they are electronically "bad". According to the internet, you should read 200Kohms plus or minus 40. I now have three sets- my original index 1 set, my counterfeit index 12 set, and a mixed set I got from a shop near my house. I found the bad one in my original set- it showed about 400 ohms resistance. The fake index 12 set is still in the car, so I didn't test those yet. The mixed set (-8 and -5) all tested to 2 megaohms, plus or minus about 200k. My original set test to around 1.7 megaohms, except for the bad one. None test to 200k. I tried two different multimeters, and both read the same. Any idea why this is? I replaced my wiring harness a couple years ago, so I'm using an actual fuel injector connector to do the test.

I've tested hundreds of N54 injectors.......for some reason, the ohms on them are all over the place. I wouldn't use the ohm readings as any type of indication as to what kind of condition they are in.

I have a total of 18 injectors to chose from at this point, I chose the six that were closest in impedance that have valid program numbers, and they all work perfectly. Thanks!

If you decide you want them gone through, checked for flow, and spray patterns.....and cleaned, let me know and I can hook you up
