FRM issues?

is it possible to erase the FRM somehow while using INPA? im pretty sure i only looked at data but now my car says something about the lighting system having a malfunction and my windows wont go up or down/gauges dont light up/headlight switch doesnt change the headlights anymore. I also have a foxwell scan tool that before this incident used to have an option for the FRM but now its not an option anymore

INPA is a great piece of software to use, but it cannot wipe your FRM. Its used for viewing different data and reading/deleting error messages. By using INPA only, the chances of you somehow messing up your FRM module are VERY small.

Before you do anything else, check the basics - battery voltage and fuses related to FRM.
After you've made sure those are OK, try using INPA again and go directly into FRM section. If you can read out the module information then it probably hasn't bricked itself.

You can try to use winKFP to flash the FRM module with new software and then use NCSExpert to code the module according to your VO, which you could get from the CAS module, for example. I can't go too much into details about winKFP though, as i've never used it to update software on FRM modules, i've used quicker more easier options such as Launch, because it was more accessible (and heaps easier), it made sense to use that instead.

If all else fails then just get a used FRM module, code that according to VO and you should be good to go. Just make sure you get the correct module, there are different ones available.

Garage List
2011 BMW 328xi  [8.88]
I also have been having FRM issues on my 2011 328xi.

I cannot get into the FRM module in Bimmercode. I am trying to code the Euro Double Emergency Flashers.

I repaired my FRM since all the data became scrambled, most likely from a bad AAA Battery Jump.

I tried entering the FRM to code the Euro Flashers and also increase the brightness strength on Bimmercode but, I got the same error code that I got before the FRM repair ‘Critical Error Detected’.

I am able to code other modules besides the FRM: Digital Speed Gauge, Comfort Window. There should be no issue in the FRM after repair

I am going to try and code this with the PC maybe it’s an issue in Bimmercode.

Has anyone had this issue?
What remedies or tips do you have?

Thank you!

You can't access the FRM at all it seems like. Firstly I'd just try with different tools, such as winKFP, see if that can connect to the FRM and then update the software. You can also try the foxwell scan tool again. Make sure your battery is charging when updating the FRM software, regardless the tool you use.

If no tool can access the FRM it's time to get it repaired or buy a new one.

I've never faced this issue myself, but using a different tool from Bimmercode seems like a smart first step. Make sure to save a backup of your original code just in case.
