Simple Audio overhaul...BUT, lost my chimes
just finished:
starting with my 2010 328i CIC idrive, base level audio navi (no additional amp, just HU, front door mids, under seat subs, and rear parcel tray mids...AND a smallish speaker under drivers side dash, for chimes?) --- what I did: left the infotainment head unit as is; replaced front door, under seat, and rear deck speakers....added Pioneer single din to removable shelf under glove box, added 5 channel Alpine amp located in trunk. There are 6 RCA's going from the single din to the amp, 4 channels and 2 sub channels. I ran all new speaker wires from amp to new speakers (rear deck, under seats, front doors) --- the individual small (chime?) speaker is still under the driver dash and still connected to it's original wires....but I'm getting no chimes. I presume it needs to be driven directly via one or all the oem HU speaker wires? Again, none of the other oem speaker wires (6 pairs) are connected to speakers now. --- TIA Last edited by dnsherrill; 08-05-2024 at 02:41 PM.. Reason: clarity |

Chimes comes from the factory head unit .
The only year that use's a separate speaker for the chimes is 06 and only in some configurations. There are some aftermarket harnesses that correct this with and aftermarket head unit . I believe connects2 is one of them. https://connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/UNI-CHIME# Last edited by ctuna; 08-06-2024 at 06:45 AM.. |

Date of production 11/2009
Thanks, I didn't want to go down the rabbit hole of replacing the OEM hu. I just dc'd and replaced the OEM speakers. If I understand correctly, the oddball left side only small speaker on the under desk panel is integrated to the entire OEM 4 channel system. To get my chimes back, maybe I can tap into channel 1 speaker wire coming out of the OEM hu. Assuming the chimes are all sent to all 4 channels on OEM design. Here's my vin specs. As I said the only year the speaker was used was in some 2006's and only in certain configurations . I don't believe that speaker is even powered by the stereo at all. The signals for the chimes come from the one of the can buses are interpeted by the OEM stereo so it's not a matter of an analog audio signal feeding the stereo .
The connects to harness somehow takes the Can bus signal translates it and feeds it to the stereo . |

Consider yourself lucky, I amplified my base audio system and am going to lose my hearing from these damn chimes that can't be turned off.

Awesome, thanks for this!
Do you see any way to lower the volume below the stock range? Maybe a different "wert" value here: DELTA_GONG_ENT wert_0 I wouldn't mind them if they weren't so loud, but the gong volume is already set to minimum. If not, I'll just turn the annoying ones off.

Try gong volume advance search on the coding forum
Try gong volume advance search on the coding subforum .
Also a good search for understanding where the gone comes from . https://www.e90post.com/forums/searc...rchid=87909220 some suggested that coding for Hi Fi and not using speaker outs from the base system could improve things if you are not already there. |
