Bad MULF2 diagnostics/replacment advice needed
I recently bought a '08 e82, with what I suspect is a bad mulf 2. (bluetooth and usb don't work and when plugging in my phone into the aux I get a loud pop from the speakers). basicaly whenever I try to turn on bluetooth I get a spinning circle on the iDrive but nothing else happens. usb port (glovebox) has power, (my usb stick has an LED that lights up when connected) but the iDrive doesn't recognize the stick, I tried 2 different sticks both formated to FAT32.
I know for a fact that it used to work because the previous owner left his music in the music collection on the Idrive. I first tried to update the navi maps, because the car has the original 2008 maps from the factory, after the iDrive didn't respond to the stick I tried to upload a song via the USB and the iDrive just said it doesn't recognize the USB. ISTA+ has no communication with the telephone/mulf module. CIC, and CIC GW respond and have no codes. I also played with component triggering in both CIC and CIC GW to no avail. Also when I unplug the optical connector from the mulf I get a red light from the cable but no light comming from the mulf unit. All of this is telling me that my mulf is bad. Is there anything else I can try to fix it or do I need to get a new module? now my question/s is. I can't find my exact mulf 2 module anywhere for sale, there are alot of mulf 2 high svs modules for sale that have 1 extra round connector (one on the right)(see pic) From what I found on the internet this is a connector for the usb under the armrest (which my car does not have). if that is the case. can I get thees two from aliexpress and just plug it in/ wire it in: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...apt=4itemAdapt https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...apt=4itemAdapt now I understand this isn't just plug and play and I will have to code it using tools32. luckily for me, my brother already has ISTA+, INPA and Tools32 like a real self respecting e9x owner. bonus pic of my mulf2 I'd also like to update iDrive software if that's possible, judging by the fact that the car still runs 2008 maps that came with it from the factory, it's probably still running the original software from the factory. so if you have a guide on how to do it, i'd be really greatful. here's the multimedia factory options my car came with; Also mods I know I should have posted this in the 1er forum but this one seems more active, and the donor mulf is from an e9x plus 1ers are just smaller 3 series anyways. |

the mulf2s are dying, thats known problem
usually the power circuitry is burn, if you have electronics repair skill you can repair it otherwise since you have cic or cic mid navigation it is best time to upgrade to combox and you also should have tcu module as well because you have teleservices option.

tnx for the reply, I'll definetly have a look into upgrading to combox.
And as for the TCU my car doesn't seam to have one, I checked and double checked just now, I removed the entire boot liner and there is no other module anywhere there, also there are no loose wires or unpluged jacks either. Only things in/under my trunk are the mulf, keyless and pdc modules, and the battery. From what I understand it's supposed to be on the same bracket as the mulf but there is nothing there. |

All US models came with pre wiring up until 2009 .
What is done in Europe may be a different spec country by country. There are non Most Bus Cars in Europe you may need to find European Experts for this. |
