N55 spun bearing or Bad starter ?
Hello everyone, I’m currently looking at a Facebook market listing for an n55 e90 m sport. In the listing it describes it does not turn on. However I asked more about the vehicle and I got explained that the car had been sitting for about a month with an oil leak and the seller took the vehicle on a drive, after they got back from the drive the vehicle didn’t start anymore. I’m not too sure on the size of the leak. They did sent me this video showing the vehicle does try and turn over but doesn’t successfully do it any ideas or should I take a look in person maybe I can try turning the motor over by hand. Vehicle has 113k miles by the way !

I would definitely expect a seized engine and if you get lucky then count it a blessing. You could definitely go try to turn it over by hand to tell. Pull off the oil filter too to check for shavings.

That looks like a failed starter - but it could be seized. I agree: if it turns over by hand then it’s a pretty good bet it is indeed a failed starter.
My intuition is that the starter is indeed bad. Go for a Valeo one - it’s what BMW uses now. A Denso/Bosch unit just means you’ll be doing the job again… |
