335i N54 knocking / ticking. Please help to diagnose it.
Hi, new member but longtime reader here.
I am looking to buy a 335i with an N54b30 engine, however, the specific example I looked at has an engine tick/knock seemingly coming from the middle of the engine on the exhaust side. The sound is not there when starting the engine cold, but slowly appears ~2min after. Already tried revving the engine to 3k RPM for 3min twice to fill the lifters with oil, which did not help. Could anybody help figure out if this could be just a stuck lifter or something more serious such as spun rod bearings? |

Sounds like a rod bearing to me. Check the oil filter....if it's full of shiny metal stuff, the bearings are toast.
If I was looking at a car that sounded like that, I would just assume that the engine is junk and needs to be replaced......so the car better be dirt cheap. Don't believe anything the seller tells you......
