Back to your point - they are taking up valuable tennis courts just because every middle aged Karen thinks they're doing something.

A sport, to me, is not 85 year old women playing at their local country club everyday. Which is what Pickleball is
"Sport is a form of physical activity or game. Often competitive and organized, sports use, maintain, or improve physical ability and skills. They also provide enjoyment to participants and, in some cases, entertainment to spectators."

Pickleball is a sport. Personally I never played it, but if an "85 year old woman" or a "middle aged Karen" enjoy regularly playing it and consider it "playing a real sport or doing something athletic" or "think they're doing something", I respect that. And so should you.

You have an M4 Competion. Some may tell you that BMW M cars are "high-performance cars" or "sporty cars" but "no real/true sports cars". Possibly you will disagree. Let's all agree on calling the car a "driving fun facilitator", instead of stealing someone's thunder or raining on someone's parade with pointless claims. As someone said: for every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.

Who are we to question what makes something a sport?

Don`t be jealous. Just because you can`t Kangaroo breakdance it doesn`t mean it`s not a sport

Thanks. I saw similar y-o-y data elsewhere, showing modest annual growth.

Maybe..but I do enjoy playing with my family and get to bond with my 7 year old daughter that loves to play too. So it's a win win to me.

What's really funny and is that a lot of people think women's indoor VB intentionally went to short shorts to draw more viewers but the reality was men's VB was wearing the same short shorts back in the 1970s and 1980s

Maybe the men wore them for the same reason.

A guy in his neighborhood spent a fortune building a pickleball court in his backyard. He has no backyard now, hopefully he moves before the fad dies out else no one will wanna buy his house.

I swear PB was invented by a couple drunk people at a family BBQ using some childrens outdoor toys.

Sure people have fun, but its for people that can't play tennis or ping pong. Rather see cornhole at the Olympics than pickleball.

I used to travel around the country and the world with like-minded enthusiasts to big track meets (nationals, European Championships, World Championships, an earlier version of today's Diamond League, Commonwealth Games, Olympics, etc.), and one of the regulars was a fellow who had installed a top quality professional running track in his "back yard". This was in the mid-80s and, IIRC, the price was ~$950K in today's dollars.

That was, and still is, the most radical thing I've ever heard of in terms of a crazy person going beyond all-out to indulge himself because he could and was, apparently, unwilling to choose to travel a handful of minutes to enjoy an equivalent athletic surface in a publicly available venue.

Depending upon circumstances, I went down to either my local high school or state university when I was still seriously training. There was simply no place to install a 400-meter running track behind my San Francisco Twin Peaks home.

I find it funny how many are bothered by pickleball and wonder about the rest of these peoples irritations and life.

I have never played pickleball but similar to other activities I have no interest in, bowling, badminton, shuffle board, bocci and the rest, I sure don't care if other people do it.

Friends and I talked about how in every town in Utah there are multiple private pickleball clubs under construction in almost every town, will be interesting how quickly some go under. There's gotta be 20 public courts within a mile or two of my neighbor. He even installed lights to play at night.

I don't wonder at all, I know it is a shit show. Everyone claims to be all about "freedom" and cannot even manage to mind their own business.

Hell yeah. As a tennis and racquetball player, I thought it was for seniors (it still it, but it isn't just), and resisted playing for awhile. I started playing last year and it can get intense. I can burn 2000cal in a morning and get a good workout. I'm finally decent enough to play intermediate and advanced intermediate and the strategies and physicality are no joke.

Tennis players, don't sleep on this. You're missing out and you can get 4 pickleball courts into one tennis court, which means more players and different experience levels with a large growing player base that can be as competitive as your skills allow. I have no problems finding a good game going twice a week. The best part is, even playing newbies can be fun.

Go play with some decent pickleball players and tell me you're not going to move more than a few feet.
