325i N53 Mod Options

Hi all,

I have an E92 325i (N53) and wondering what mod options are out there from a performance perspective?

I have AMD in Lakeside mapping so power up to 265 and 320 (BHP & Torque respectively), also getting a K&N Performance Air Filter and RPI Air Scoops for a little bit more.

I've heard that the 330 intake is different to the 325 but not sure it'd make much more power on AMD's map?? Suggestions?

Also interested in a 335 style performance exhaust but no idea where to start. Anyone have any ideas?

Any other options would be greatly appreciated!!

TIA

IMHO there isn't a lot more you can do to this engine to improve on what you have, assuming the figures quoted have been verified before and after on a rolling road?

You might gain a little getting the NOx sensor mapped out then removing the NOx cats but even together with the air filter, you'll barely notice the small gains.

I'd save your money ready for the next round of injector & HPFP failures to be honest.

Ok cheers. Was surprised by the AMD map and didn't think I'd get more but still open to suggestions.

Already had another new coil pack (recalled one was obviously as sh*t as the original). Injectors all fine after 60k. No idea when they were changed under recall but I've owned since 28k.

HPFP??

Check my threads! I have done a fair few mods and planned mods:

MAP 265 bhp without inlet
330I Inlet 10-15bhp
NOX Cat removal -BHP to be confirmed but will sound allot better!
Primary Catalyst and 3 branch Headers together with MAP to remove CEL. 10-20HP.

Getting you N53 working properly is key!....

ie Injectors, rev11, NOX errors, Spark Plugs, PCV valve, Rocker cover oil leaks etc.

I will eat my hat (if I wore one) if you get a true 265 with just a re-map. All the reputable tuners I've contacted say 10-15 bhp increase at best...

This engine is artificially strangled, which is very common practise with many engines BMW produce and the same for many manufacturers. The BMW 116i, 118i, 120I are all the same hardware, N53B30 are the same hardware despite the different power outputs except the manifold! There are many examples of how BMW limit power for the badge you buy as it more economically sensible to produce the same HW.

I'm not sure I will change your mind on this, but I'd suggest to being open about it there are a lot of people on e90 post that have had it done!

If only the same were true for Injectors!

I had my N53 530i dyno'd recently, it's running fine no f/c's, injector issues etc and only achieved 245bhp but the torque was spot on at around 230lbs/ft. I thought it was just mine but I've seen others with the same engine with similar figures. For some reason this engine doesn't seem to produce the advertised factory 268bhp.

I'm not suggesting your re-map is over-stated, but would honestly like to see an independent RR of their re-map and would certainly be tempted if it improves my stock map. Cheers

I got my car tuned by phantom tuning. On the website it said it will increase to 265 but when I put my car on the dyno it’s only pushing 232bhp. Only 14bhp power gain and that’s dyno tested too.

I agree with you mate. My 325i went to 232bhp on the dyno. Phantom tuning website estimated 265bhp. That estimation is off to say the least. Got scammed on a 14bhp remap😓

If that’s what you got I’d get your money back, that dump output has none of the relevant data eg gear, afr etc

Go to the people I suggested, have been running that map for 7 + years and the performance difference is significant.

I tried to get my money back but they made excuses saying the car is 15 years old blah blah blah. They said their website is based on estimations only. Biggest BS ever
