Quick question

Hi new boy question, I have what I think is the base sound system in my car, labeled BMW “ professional”, I can’t live without hands free and sat nav so I want to replace this unit with an after market double DIN.

My question is do I loose any programming/setup functionality

My car only has parking sensor on/off so deleting that is no concern to me,

And that allows me to lower the heat A/C controls to accomodate the double DIN

In my 2005 X5 there was issues, in that car, but as the LCD display in this car only works now when the car is cold it’s of little use as it is.

Second question. My start stop button is looking tired , has any one tried just replacing the cover, I see them available after market as well, or should I be replacing the whole assembly,

Thanks

The Eonon units are a popular upgrade for the E9x as the company did a great job making it look very integrated. They support CarPlay and Android Auto, and also retain all functionality. These things are better than the BMW factory CIC/CCC systems.

There's also another great option that installs on the dash, but requires cutting. I personally love this setup and thought about installing it on my E93, but my only concern is that automotive electronics require special design considerations for heat and vibration, and I'm not sure I trust the long term reliability of these things since it gets a lot of direct sunlight exposure.

Those covers are easy to replace, definitely worth a try to refresh yours. No need to replace the entire assembly.
