I couldn't get any of the DYI for the V1 or Passport hardwire install to work on my 2011 335xi. I found a switched 12v source in the same lighting console on the 3rd connector from the drivers side or 3rd connector from the bluetooth microphone connector. Its a red wire with black stripe. about 18 AWG. I was able to use the same 10mm bolt for a ground. No power dropout with sunroof open. I will attempt to use the same source to power my dash cam's 12v to 5v voltage regulator.

This is a nice tutorial, we have very little diyer in Hong Kong. Thank you .
Is it possible to get a 12v constant from the roof module? Coz I want to install Dashcam by using this method. And the Dashcam DR500 support parking recording, thanks again. |

You guys will regret following these instructions. The way this DIY informs you to hook it up cuts the power to your sunroof. This DIY should be taken down. Who knows how many people have done this only to be upset with the final results.

All you need to do is run a wire down to the fuse box and use an add a fuse on an ignition on only fuse.
That aspect is that only thing differs from one vehicle to the next as vehicle options will change which fuses work. For my car the home link fuse was one that only turned on when the car was on and turned off when the vehicle was off. Then ground to the nearest chassis point. |

I would think if the DIY was that bad, people would post it. That's what the internet is mostly for, bitchin and complaining, don't you think?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221707602335 Going to run it down to the fuse box instead, a bit more work but I've done it before on my e46 |

I've done this tapping into a sunroof wire on previous BMWs and it worked flawless (except the part where you have to rip that dome light down). But my E92 has a switched 12V outlet directly under the glovebox that I just plugged the V1 straight cord into and ran it over to and up the A pillar, then over inside the head liner. Soooooooo easy!

I went the most easy and direct route... Fuse-tap to the Homelink fuse. It's been working for over 4 years now without any problems.
Here is a reference DIY with pictures. http://www.billswebspace.com/BMWe90R...stallation.htm |

Spectacular installation method
I spent the time to install this exactly as the original posted directions and I am thrilled that I did. The other day, my V1 fell off the windshield because the suction cups had gotten old. The covering on the spiral cord split because it was hanging there for too long so I needed to replace the cord. All I had to do was pop the console out and plug in a new cord. I had been dreading the process thinking the replacement would be involved, but when I referenced this original installation article, I realized that it would be a sub-15 minute job.
I know this is a very old post, but I wanted to share that it is still helping people out! |

kills sunroof
so does this kill the sunroof or people that did it don't have sunroofs. Its seems 50/50 it kills sunroof, which doesn't make sense 12V in line shouldn't kill anything.

It has no affect on sunroof. Correct me if I’m wrong but a sunroof is standard and comes on all but the M version.
