In this episode of Inside BMW Group Classic, we take you to the sunny countryside of Bavaria with the BMW 507 and BMW Z8.

But first, how about checking out the new entry hall of the BMW Museum and enjoying some hip-swinging fun before we hit the road?

Timeless design. Lightweight. Highly connected driving experience. Hmm, almost like an Ultimate Driving Machine.

I wonder if anyone would be interested in that today? Probably not.

Somewhere at HQ - “Stick a battery in it. Make it heavy.”

Most of the current designs will be oddities not classics in the future.

IMO while the G8x can be considered striking, esp in CSL/CS variants, the way they've inspired memes and "..yes, but" reactions makes me think they did miss the mark. It's one thing for the design to grow on people but another to elicit an immediate desire for it.

Still waiting for the next generation that stops me thinking "yes, the driving dynamics are insane, but..."

Realistically, only from people that are really into cars. For anybody who knows nothing or has a passing interest, it’s insane. I’ve had many nice cars and literally none of them got the reaction that the CSL gets, not even close…

Fair point but the G82 does come in for a LOT of stick over styling. It just surprised me that the reaction of Joe Public is incredibly positive. I’m always asked about taking a photo of it… and it’s always mentioned by people that have seen it and know it’s mine. Crazy…

This is spot on. I hated the G8x design at first. Now I have one. One of the most liked and commented on by the general public cars I ever owned. And that includes numerous M and P cars.

I would think that leaning on a classic car is less likely to damage it than going 100 kph +. Pretty hard to have a tire blow out from leaning.

Design is a fickle thing. Some things age out better and are appreciated more in hindsight than they are in the moment. The 507 was an absolute flop in it's day. No one bought it because it was too expensive and there were other cars, like offerings from Mercedes and even the Corvette in the US that would run circles around it for a fraction of the price. Now...its unobtanium. More recently you have the mid 90s Supra 2JZ that Toyota couldn't give away at the time, now look at them. I'm not trying to say the the G8x is comparable to either of these cars...but history may be kinder to its design aspects in hindsight.

Wait explain please, do people who see your car like it and compliment it or YOU have changed your mind and started liking it?

Those are two different things.

Apologies in advance - I buy my car that I like. Don’t give an F about getting a compliment from some person on the street.

You would be surprised. M3 manual gear and CSL will be more appreciated in the next future IMHO

I wish I had enough dough to buy a nice well taken care of / pampered low mileage garage kept silver Z8 for my collection. Such a superb machine & beautiful too. Would look awesome parked next to an equally pristine E39 M5. They sure don't make them like that anymore. The E39 was a solid tank & with a bullet proof chassis.
