Rough idle and potential misfire hunting

Hey all, my 2009 E92 320i has had some issues with the idle on cold starts, where it seems to bob up and down quite a bit, while also shaking and jerking the car, sometimes even a big jolt can be felt in the car. Today while running tests on the vanos solenoids, while the intake solenoid was activated, couldnt notice any rough running or anything like that, but when it started running the exhaust solenoid, the car started jolting and jerking again, even throwing out a little white smoke from the exhaust (dunno if thats related). I struggle to believe this is normal operation..... any suggestions? Should i take the vanos out and have a look? Or have any of you guys got other troubleshooting methods? I have both ista-d and inpa
