If not you will very likely be getting a call from your credit card issuer about the strange charges you have been making. Ask me how I know.

My wife got her sugar cube too late and got polio at age 5. Couldn’t walk.
Months of physical therapy. She was one of the lucky ones that made a full recovery.

It got shipped to Germany with my household goods when I was in the Army. It spent 3 years in the unit's arms room, untouched. When I got out of the service in Germany, I couldn't own it as a civilian, and the Army wouldn't let me ship it back to the U.S. because it was considered a military surplus weapon. Serious Catch-22. I had to do something with it, but no one could tell me what legal remedies I had. Finally another soldier offered to take it. I told him the problem he was going to have with it when it came time for him to return to the U.S., but he said he'd deal with that when the time came. I heard a year or so later that he packed it up with his skis in a ski bag and sent it back with his household goods.

I read somewhere that a surplus P-51 Mustang could be picked up for $2000.00
right after WWII ended. What a deal. Existing Mustangs are now worth a million bucks or more.

What my family does have from Vietnam (post conflict) is a compass. In the early 80s, father was stationed aboard the USS Towers. His ship picked up Vietnamese refugees. As a MAC, he was responsible for processing these persons. The skipper of the refugee vessel carried aboard a compass. During the interview, skipper stated he was grateful a USN warship rescueed them, he then gifted the compass to my father. Last edited by John H.; 09-30-2024 at 03:57 PM.. Reason: Added info. |

Anyway, I was in Vietnam in 1969, Army, and let me tell you, we couldn’t mail home shit without it being scrutinized. Even our pay sent home was under the microscope, meaning we weren’t allowed to send home more than we made (the black market problem). But wait, they weren’t done with us yet! On the big day we went home we had to empty our duffle bags and have the contents inspected by MP’s.

My Dad had one of these when I was a kid. He let me use it and showed me how to shave properly. Always loved the smell of Old Spice. Still use it today.
