Hail Dents SO ANGRY!!!

First off, I hope I'm posting this in the right place. Not sure else where it would go. I live on Long Island and experienced hail today in 60 degree weather. Stupid ice chunks the size of golf balls that left little dings all over my roof, hood, and trunk. There must be at least 15 of them. They're not big dings but you can see it in the reflection. My friend already made an appointment to have his fixed at a local detail shop but the guy said it's going to run at least a couple hundred bucks. Does anyone have any experience with this and is there a DIY fix that would make my life a lot easier? Thanks.

Sincerely,
and

i've seen several diy dint videos.

they all seem to involve some sort of freezing spray then heating with a hair dryer.

Seems to work on small and large dints. not sure i would do it on my car but in the video it seems to work ok.

Something to do with the metal reacting and contracting and expanding with the cold then the heat.

No doubt someone cleverererer than me can explain it.

A talented guy with a set of PDR tools is well worth $200. Sorry to hear of your damage. Does your friend have as many dings (~15)?

+1. "a couple hundred bucks" sounds like a great deal to me. I would have expected something like $50 per ding.

Damn man, I feel your pain. I'm in Long Island too and although I didn't experience the hail yesterday in my town, I did drive through it on the LIE a few days ago. I could hear the hail balls smacking against my windshield and roof/hood/trunk while driving. I was looking for an underpass to park under until it passed, but no such luck. Thankfully, i didn't get any dents on my car. My advice is go to a Paintless dent removal guy and get it fixed.

Yes my friend does have the same amount of dings and I'll probably just bite the bullet and pay the money to get it fixed. If it were near the end of my lease I would say screw it and just deal with it but I still have another 21 months.

I know how you feel. It hailed here in the Philly suburbs too. Never saw anything like this in my life. I was helpless as I got pelted for about 5 minutes without a break (seemed like an eternity). Estimate just in: $2100 to remove 35 (yes count 'em...35) dings distributed across my hood (the brunt of it), roof and trunk lid. Paintless dent removal is the planned approach (I'm hoping nothing has to be repainted 'cause I'd just as soon avoid that). Fortunately, the damage is covered by my comprehensive with a $250 deductable. But I don't have to tell you how annoying it is to me for this to happen to a 4 month old car!
