The steering is light without coding and I’ve used my own tensioner but i have used the belt that you linked!

And i had to remove 1 pulley from the middle the tensioner is the same as you listed but a different part number but it is exactly the same

This is awesome!
Definitely motivates me to do the conversion on my n54. Do you have any steering related lights on the dash?
If everything works, then what benefit is there to do the coding part…

You'll have same VIN as your car, and also without adding 1CB there potentially could be problems when some error occurs - you have additional light on dash that will light up when error show. So coding is more for integration of EPS into the car, but also for changing characteristics of that

Hey great write up. I tried tackling this myself and wired the rack to the car temporarily (while it was still off the car).

I can’t connect to the EPS module. It’s not showing up on INPA. Tool32 won’t connect either.

I’ve coded FA on NCSExpert - #0910, $1CB, $216 to CAS and FRM. But EPS isn’t listed as a module on NCSExpert.

I’ve got a 2006 E90 335i with N54 and these never were released with EPS. I thought that I should still be able to connect to the module using INPA or Tool32.

Any thoughts or do you think it won’t work because it was never released for the particular model?

Check if the CAN loom is wired properly. When connected it should be showing up automatically. Electronics in E9X almost stayed same from 2004, so this is not a case. Maybe there is a problem with mismatch pins in the EPS socket? I can paste the wiring pinout if you want.

To be honest, there is no difference in throttle response, biggest differences for me are ease of parking, and a little bit reduced fuel consumption. Hello amazing thread, im attempting to do this on my e92 335i n54, removed eps from e92 320i i see you sayin there are only 3 wires to connect in the ecu box, my eps harness has 5 wires do you have any idea what to connect where?

Have you got a pic of the plug side? Weird because the 2 twisted pairs are the same... PT-CAN lol

As I see in ISTA wiring diagram in EPS socket PIN 1 is CAN (Wake Up line), PIN 5 (PT CAN High (PT - Powertrain)), PIN 2 PT CAN Low. I have checked pre LCI, and LCI and all diagrams are the same, so I do not know why there are two PT Cans in one socket.

Nope, I'm talking about the socket that is coming from the "outside". Steering angle sensor is connected directly between sensor and EPS module on the rack itself. Socket that has to be done by Yourself has to have those 3 wires (wake up line, and 2 pt cans). You can connect that into DME Box. (This socket has 6 pins, but 3 are used and required as I mentioned earlier).

did you find the solution to your problem? i am in the same boat. did lot of research on wiring diagram. on e90 to torque sensor , the diagram says 4 pins, but i have only two wires in pin 2 and pin 5 positon. it is really weird because all the diagrams from on 3 E series, say 4 pins and I have only two. rest of the pins from the other connectors match. 2 pin torque sensor was only used on some F SEIRES car. I am lost. do you mind if you can check how many pins do you have on torue sensor plug. this plug is on EPS and connects to the sensor on steering rack shaft.

I am talking about wiring from torque sensor to EPS MODULE. i checked the wiring their and I found only two wires, coming from torque sensor to EPS MODULE. I checked the voltage of the 100amp wire with a test light under load and it is workigg. I also checked voltage on PT-can wire and voltage is also their obviously not 12 volts there. I also checked some other wiring diagrams on e series and some 100amp wire use capacitor in parallel. not sure what is that for. could you check the wire coming from torque sensor to EPS MODULE? not sure what I am doing wrong or EPS MOTOR IS being smart and faulty for me

I've checked my EPS rack that is laying in my garage, and from torque sensor to module I have 4 wires, White, yellow, brown and green. I will check in ISTA if there is anything more about that. If you want I can send picture of that plug.

Alright so basically from Torque sensor you have 4 wires:
PIN 1 - Green - 5V
PIN 2 - Brown - Ground
PIN 3 - White - Signal Sine
PIN 4 - Yellow - Signal Cosine

thanks for replying. I got my thing sorted. EPS wiring can differ so much from car to car. I have only two wires connecting EPS torque sensor to EPS RACK plug. so different from yours. But it is very much doable with little patience and knowledge of electronics of car. I got stuck on my splice connector. I was able to check voltage and resistance at my wire splice connectors AND everything seemed to be good, but still not showing on INPA.I was frustrated and stuck. decided to go again and swap canbus wires and BANG I had EPS showing on INPA. so I wiggled the wires and it was on and off on INPA, so I knew that wires are loose though i was measuring continuity. so lesson learnt. check your splices or wire joints triple when you doing this retrofit. I am happy with this. saves lot of space in engine compartment. next retrofit would be air bag suspension
