Of course, all of this is taken into account by the computer's oil life calculations, so as long as you change your oil when you're supposed to, it won't make a huge difference in the long run. |

No. Warming up your car in the driveway is bad for the engine, not good for it. You should always start driving as soon as you start the car.

I think also shirt journies because there is water as a by product ( you’ll see it on a. Cold day as either drips or vapour) if the exhaust system is not warmed up any water left in there will sit in there and not evaporate out so potential for the exhaust rust over time
Yeh short journies when not fully warmed up are not great overall. My car m550 takes about 15 mins for the oil to be fully up to temp. |

The n54 takes forever to warm up the oil. Modern engines have many thermal control units to help it heat up faster. I wonder why the n54 takes so long since the water pump is likely off and the oil cooler thermostat is off until it warms. Seems like BMW designed the engine with a focus on cooling, since it can be a very hot engine. Not much thought put into the warm up time back then. |

I've opened a thread about the fact I put 0$ on my N55 with 170k km and 90% short trips (2-3km) for kids school and groceries . And no oil leak, no funny noise, no check engine. So yeah technically its bad, but the engine might survive just fine. |
