Angry Oil Leak - Common issue?

Hi Everyone,

I have a BMW 318i 2008 but recently ive been needing to top up the oil a bit too frequently, suggesting a probable leak. I know older cars do leak but trying to find a fix...

Video attached - burns slightly at the start of a drive but fine after a few minutes.

Clear visible leaks coming from somewhere. Anyone with experience of this know what may be the issue please?

Top three possibilities are:
1) Valve cover gasket
2) Oil filter housing/oil cooler gaskets
3) Sump gasket.

OK thanks I’ll look into those, and see if they are easy enough fixes. I presume I probably couldn’t sort it myself!

I'd say (1) and (2) are DIY possible, though maybe not (3) as it requires the subframe to be dropped and is tricky without access to a lift.

P.S. if you're doing the valve cover I'd advise replacing not just the gasket but the whole cover. They are susceptible to hairline cracks and a new cover also gives you a new PCV system...
