335D Remap - Evolve
I've had the 335d coupe approx a month now and although extremely impressed with its performance I've decided to get it remapped by Evolve in Luton and at this moment in time I'm opting for the variant 2 map which gives 355bhp & 700nm torque.
The car has just covered 1,000 miles and will be dyno'd before and after, I'm going to request it remains strapped down so I can actuate the gains with as few variables as possible. As the BMW, RWD, auto ownership is new to me are there any helpful tips you can give me for use on the day to safeguard my car and any comments regarding the company ? Thanks all, Spin |

Spin, better off posting in the UK section. You'll find many of us with 335Ds and a lot of threads discussing re-mapping.
Most Americans have little first-hand experience of modern Diesels. BMW will be bringing the 335D to the US soon, so we will see a wave change of opinion shortly. D.

The same company do offer a lower bhp but higher Torque map (345 & 730nm) but apparently this spins the wheels in 3rd so definetly not what I'm looking for ![]() I do have a preference for 'switchable' maps but have yet to find a tuner that offers this for the BMW, my last car - an Audi S3 8P was mapped by GIAC accompanied by a handheld flashloader so this could be switched back to standard for any regular dealer visits - servicing etc ![]() Hopefully someone will be along with some advice but if not I'll let you guys know how I get on.. |

My only concern is that you're doing too soon. I'm not too worried about the engine not being ready for it, but 1000 miles isn't much to really feel the difference. Can't say I'm much better myself.. I did it after 2000 miles :-) About wheelspin spinning in third does sound a bit over the top. Mine "only" clocked in at 720nm after the remap, but I'm only getting slight spin in 2nd. Also, I'd very much opt for the higher HP version tuneup. You're sitting pretty already at "just" 650+nm.

You really think the car is slow on pickup? Are you i manual mode? In D it will start in second. Also, you have to get used to the way it pulls. Compared to the 335i the 335d's pull feels more linear. It's relentless rather than explosive.

Cheers for that hadn't realised it pulled off in second when in D that now makes sense as when in 'M' and flooring from a standstill it does feel every bit as fast as the claimed 0-60 (0-100km).
I have been tending to use either paddles or lever when driving with enthusiam and using D around town. I don't plan to do any silly stuff on the ring its more a road trip with the track at the end as a bonus, 5 differing cars are going and all agreed on no timing etc. Thanks Spin |

Deactivate DSC/DTC by holding down the button for 5 secs. Select manual mode and first gear. Left foot on the brake and right foot on the gas until you hit ~1500RPMs where the torque is at highest level. The car will nudge forward a bit, but don't worry about it. In one motion remove your left foot from the brake and floor the gas with your right. Hold on to your steering wheel and be prepared to control the rear a bit.. she might 180 on you :-) Some claim this method can be hard on the tranny, but I've never had any problems with it. Also, my good friend who's worked on BMWs for more than 15 years tells me that it's no problem. Have fun!

The auto transmission on the 335D is different to the 335i - the i uses the 6HP19TU, whereas the 335D uses the 6HP26 which is much higher rated in its torque handling. 700nm, as long as the delivery is managed well by the ECU, is perfectly ok for the transmission.

i wouldnt worry about being too soon, i had my one done at 700ish miles now has 35k plus hasnt missed a beat 163-196 bhp, its true the engine lossens up over time, but bmw engines cope with being run in hard, have you ever heard of engines breaking because they rev over 4k rpm its very rare, i would say go for it

I've heard it mentioned before that fuel consumption goes down or doesn't change along with a remap. That has _not_ been the case certainly for me :-) Previously I'd do 12km/L and now I'm doing 11.2 km/L (90% city driving).
