Bluetooth on a genuine bmw stereo

How easy is it to get the Bluetooth working on a genuine bmw stereo? Is it a case of just getting a module for it?
Appreciate any help you can give.

That's a loaded question, prior to 2009, Bluetooth only supports phone calls on factory audio systems. 2009 and later you can also get AD2P audio streaming as well. They all work great, once you pair your device.

Perhaps you can be a bit more specific with your question? Something like what do you have currently and what are your goals going forward.

You don't say if you have idrive or pro radio this makes a big
difference on the routes you can go .
What do you require from it?
Also which sound system you have can make a difference in what you can
or cannot retrofit Hi Fi , Top Hi Fi or base system .
There was no bluetooth Music in BMW's till after 2010 approximately .

Mr12volt is a common way to get usb,sd card music plus bluetooth streaming.

All routes will involve some programming.

BMW bluetooth music only works with idrive of a certain year a software level.

That's not quite how it works.
If you have iDrive, then a Combox retrofit is the way to go. Plenty of info on this forum to do that. Or an MMI box, like the Mr12volt box, that gives you Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

If you don't have iDrive, so a radio with no screen, (and this also actually works for the iDrive unit as well) then a Tune2air adaptor is what you want. This plugs into the AUX/USB ports and gives you Bluetooth music streaming and is controllable via the steering wheel buttons (the only adaptor that is!).

I’ll have a tune2air on my 2010 e91 cic but on the steering wheel only my volume buttons work

Hi

I have 2007 car.

I fitted CIC & Combox = working bluetooth (calls and A2DP bluetooth) + USB music from combox.

Basically fit the hardware, tell the car it is now older by 4 years and it works.

Ive used this shit for years, 5$ , worked very well.

It connects to your phone automatically, create a .mp3 in realtime, your car usb input will read it as a .mp3 drive.

2 cons :

- audio delay when you shik a track for about 4-5 sec (makes sense, its a buffer).

- audio skip steering button works, but after 3 songs skips the audio stops. So Ive used vocal comment or directly on the phone to skip songs.
