Android Head unit, but with no aux.

Hi

For the last past 2-3 months i have tried to find a solution to upgrade my headunit in my E90 - 2005 CCC

Problem is that most aftermarket android headunits req some kind og aux for audio. Thats a problem for me cuz:

1. My AUX is broken (i dont know why)
2. The sound from the AUX, is more or less crap from what i heard.

So that leave me with this option:

MOST Bus BMW CCC M-ASK CarPlay & AA Interface

https://www.mr12volt.com/products/p2000-cccmd

That could work for me, but tbh i also wanted a bigger screen, cuz i don't really like the 6,5" inch screen.

Today i saw a interesting comment on a youtube video regarding installing a android headunit on a E90

" Routing of the AUX cable depends if you have 6FL (USB) input.
If you have 6FL (USB), the sound has to be routed to the AUX port.
If you don't have 6FL (USB), the sound is routed from the head unit directly via fiber optics to the sound module in the trunk. "

i'll leave a link to the video :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaAk...=VehicleVirals

Can anyone confirm this?

Cuz i dont have a 6FL (USB) in my armrest, only AUX socket.

Best regards

eMp

You can play music from a flash drive if you have 6fl though the usb
socket , and this avoids the aux .The Mr12 volt does the same thing.
As far as I know the Mr12volt devices are the only ones that do this.

The reason for my post is to find out if the audio can come from the fiber optic cable it self and not the AUX.

like the youtube comments said. Some models dont req AUX for a android head unit to work.

I know the function of the Mr12Volt.

If the entire head unit is replaced with and aftermarket it may have some analog outputs . (but that won't work for the L7 amp )
But for the piggyback add on's the only one I know of is Mr 12 Volt.
(that avoids the aux)
You are taking a chance with the Chinese head units that they will
work and there is not likely to be much support.

6FL means the USB and Aux come from the Mulf 2 or combox module.
there may be a USB Hub in between on some cars . (between the modules
mentioned and the Head Unit)

If you already have and idrive the screen size is limited to what
can go in the Hump in the middle.

If you have the Bucks and Time you could update to and OEM NBT evo system.
there are retrofit companys that do this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_iDrive

Redoing the idrive and Logic 7 system is a can of worms and expensive.

Thanks alot.

I took a few pictures of my sound system in the car, So far what i can see its iDrive with a MULF2 and a Alpine amp.

Do you know if the AUX in the armrest are connected to the MULF2 in the trunk directly or is it routed to the head unit first?

Cuz if there was a way to bypass the AUX and use the fiber optic cable i would go for that with the chinse head unit.

And if thats not possible im just gonna get the Mr12volt option.

No M ask system in the US .
CCC yes.

Follow the wires.
6fl in US cars means the Aux comes from the Mulf 2 hi
and or combox in the cars that have those.

The modules in the Trunk are usually labelled.
Also they can be identified by using Inpa in Standard
Tools Functional Jobs.

Or get a copy of Standard Tools and Read the Head units setting
either using trace files or NCSDummy . See the coding sub forum
to accomplish this .

Thanks

1. would be trying to dismount the armrest, so i can get to the AUX socket and smack a multimeter on the wires. Atm i think the wires go straight to the head unit so i will try to remove that to, so that i can test the wiring.

If the wires are good and everything is connected correctly, well that leads to option 2.

2. Maybe the AUX Socket could be broken or faulty. In that case i'll just ordre a new one.

3. This option could be a error in the coding or some missing coding.

4. if the AUX cable runs to the MULF2 before the head unit, it could also be a broken MULF2

This is a new 8.8" screen and uses optical apparently:

I just found out about this option today on Reddit. If you get one let us know how the audio quality is.

But it clearly wrote in the website that:
"NOTE: The CarPlay head unit outputs sound through AUX, Please make sure your car has AUX function."

Please double check.

My understanding about Android units is that none of them replace the head unit at all but they simply act as an interface to receive sound from different sources (BT, USB, internal storage, internet etc...) and deliver it to the original head unit of the car through AUX (as the original head units have no other audio inputs at all) from where it is converted to multi channel analog signals or MOST bus to go to the amp depending on the installed sound system.

My 2008, 335i E93 - CCC came with Top HiFi amp in the trunk and fiber between the head unit and the amp. After tons of research, I recently purchased this Android unit for her:

https://xtrons.com/bmw-various-andro...rom-qpb8260ccp

I purchased this unit direclty from Hong Kong and asked thousands of the questions that were all answered by the sales person with good patience. The unit was delivered to me last week and I have the plan to install it during next weekend. The good things about this unit were octa core CPU, 8GB + 128GB, 4G SIM Card support and Qualcomm BT that made me choose it. I attached the brochure of this unit, in the page 6 I can see that the audio-out (3) and audio-in (4) wires are looped. What I think is that 3 is the output of the Android unit and 4 is the AUX of the head unit. And in order to give an AUX port to the users, wires 13 and 14 are there to be connected to the AUX port in the center console. Upper in the same page, where some schematic wiring diagram is shown, I can see that the link between head unit and the amp remains the green fiber optic wire going out of the head unit. Well, these are all my understandings before installing the unit on the car. I will post more data and pics during and after installation. All in all, I can say that there is no Android unit delivering digital sound to BMW amp without touching the original head unit at all. What they do is to deliver the analog audio to the head unit and from there it goes to the amp by fiber (Top HiFi) or multi channel analog wires (HiFi).

Hey- did you ever install your unit? Very curious if you left the audio out+ audio in cables connected. I have what seems to be the exact same unit and have a very high pitched constant tone of “feedback” coming through my speakers, I have my “audio out” hooked to the car’s native aux in the armrest. I’d love to know how you get audio to the speakers if the “audio out” and “audio in” of 3+4 on your diagram are connected.
