325xi - replaced transfer case and actuator motor, codes persist
Long time stalker, first time poster.... 2006 325xi, had something binding up in low speed turning, I thought it was going to be the actuator motor so I ordered one and some fluid to do a transfer case service while I was there.
Ended up with the trifecta lights on a highway drive and heard something shredding itself apart before my parts came in. Binding stopped. She drove nice, barring the Christmas dash. Actuator arrived, threw her on the lift, went to drain the TC and she dripped about an ounce of burnt fluid. Stopped and found a VIN verified 57k mile TC locally for $350 with a free quart of BMW dtf1 and a new drain plug. Replaced the TC and actuator motor today, TC calibration fails and still getting 5F3A (transfer case, internal) and 54C4 (calibration failed)... Can clear the codes, attempt to calibrate the TC, it fails, throws codes that I can't clear until I cycle ignition, rinse and repeat. Front wheels are spinning on the lift now so awd is working, they were not spinning before I changed the TC and actuator. 5F3A was present before doing the swap, 54C4 was not. 53FA comes back as soon as you start the vehicle, 54C4 takes a few minutes.
