B58 Coils on N54 - MHD...runs really rough
MHD with B58 coils which are a mix of Eldor and OEM. Updated MHD with the B58 setting although it had Nexsys or something as part of the description. It starts off running smoothly but then starts missing pretty badly.
Used a kit specific to the N54/B58 but didn't pull apart to see if there is a resistor in the boot. Is a resistor needed? Are there custom settings that need to be also applied to MHD besides just updating the tune with B58 selected? Thanks for the help, appreciated. |

Also, plugs gapped at .26 because I've heard that this set up can handle it and a larger gap can be beneficial for a better burn. But, will regap them tomorrow at .22....although I really don't think this is the issue. Any ideas out there?

When I spoke to ken (wedge) few weeks ago he said to me to use OEM bosh sparks instead of my ngk one gaped at 0.22....
Then I put back my OEM sparks on my n54 and everything run fine. Just an information but I have no precise idea for you. |

Not sure what you are saying here? You have a a mix B58, eldor, and OEM coils? Or just eldor and OEM? If the latter you don't need to check and boxes. And i hope the gaps not .26 should be .022 |

I was looking into B58 coils and it was sketchy a bit changing the length of the conductor spring. I went with Eldor all alone, and car is making around 600bhp reliably for a while. gap 0.020 only pros I see to go with B58 coils, you can run a thinner sparkplug tip on 2 step colder, so might help on mpg. |

Oh yes, I can see the confusion. All are B58 coils, brand wise they are a mix of Eldor and BMW. I'll change the gap back today to see if that is the issue. I've read mixed reports stating a larger gap is OK because of the power of the B58's vs stock N54 coils.
Haven't heard anything about running OEM plugs with the B58, but I might still have a few around and can try them if regapping doesn't help. I'll doublt check the boot and spring (and see if there is a resistor in the boot) as I just put everything together and dropped in. It's a kit specific for a B58 conversion for the N54 so assumed all was properly sized. Thanks for the feedback and other thoughts please let me know. |

from my research I didnt see any benefit from B58 over N54-Eldor, and worst case can burn mosfet faster on the MSD80 .
R8 are a solid choice, however the harness is super expensive. precision racework got they own issues has well, but for most high power N54 they are awesome. Thus the reason why the N54-eldor are the best option for the price handsdown. People pushing 700whp no issue. I would remove the engine cover to get better T° . |

Update, I regapped to .22 and ran code checks.
Getting Cylinder 3 code 2E1A, spark duration is too short. Sounds like this is a bad ignition coil, or is there a setting that needs to be adjusted in MHD? |

Eldors are suppose to give the best output and spark energy dispersion. out of curiosity, what coil type is cylinder 3? |
