Installed new rear window regulator but I'm having an issue getting it to work right

2007 328xi, passenger side rear window regulator.

Swapped out old one, no issues. Clipped the window into the new regulator as required.

Window will now move up and down, but not correctly.

When sending the window to the lowest point, it will NOT come back up without manual help. The motor makes a sound like something is binding it up....but if you reach in and ever so lightly pull up/help it get started it will go up fine.

When it gets to the top it does not stop, it will hit the top and automatically come down half way.

I must be missing something simple. Any help is much appreciated.

When the window is down all the way, try pulling the switch up a few times momentarily, but only in the first position (not the second auto-up position.)

You'll need to re-initialize/recalibrate the anti-trap settings to get them to work properly.

But I could never successfully accomplish this; I had a 06 325i E90 and replaced both rear window regulators twice and could never get the windows to open properly when they were completely down. I had to do that trick where I tap the switch up to get it to move past the seal and then it would move up completely (auto or manually.) My guess is there was too much physical resistance, maybe the glass in the frame. I sold the car before I ever got to resolve it.

AS mentioned they need to be re-initialized.

Thank you. I'll give it a shot. I ran into the issue while doing the initialization process, which starts with sending the window all the way to the bottom.

Did you replace it with a Dorman "OE Fix" window regulator?

I've tried over and over to re-initialize on mine, and it still has to have the initial manual lever pull to start. I've just lived with it.

I went through this with the one I bought. Prev owner had both rear regs replaced. It was the motors. They somehow got damaged when the regulators failed. Look up my old post on this.

If the motor is fine, where did you get the regulator from? I bought the "oe supplier" one on FCP Euro. Didn't have an issue with replacing my rear regulator. Maybe you have to align the window better on the rails? I can't recall if it was even possible to have the window misaligned from the rails.

As stated above, re-initialize. Then spray silicone lube in the vertical tracks to ease the friction of the window moving.

from another post:

1. Put key in, no need to start car.
2. Roll window all the way down, let go of button.
3. Hold window button DOWN for 20seconds. This resets the window in the down position. Now you must reset the window in the up position.
4. Roll window up. Do NOT panic if window doesn't go all the way up. Mine would only go up about 3inches. Then I would hold the up button again and it would only go up another 3inches or so. Keep doing this until the window is all the way in the up position as the window has not been reset in the up position yet. Let go of button.
5. Hold window button UP for 20 seconds. This resets the window in the up position.

Directions for reinitializing are easy. Getting it to do so is a bitch. I had to try a bunch of times. Just keep trying, it will take eventually.

Progress has been made. It's now better but not perfect. I found these instructions above in a youtube video before I saw they were here. They worked great to set the top. I haven't yet been able to set the bottom, it just does not want to take.

I'm now able to send the window up manually or automatic, send it down manually or automatic, but I still have to blip it up manually from the bottom a few mm before I can send it up.

Thank you for all the help with it.

That was the exact issue I had with my 325 and could never get it to work properly, so frustrating.

I asked this before, but never answered... did you install a Dorman "OE" Fix window regulator, because if you did the window will get stuck at the bottom and you will have to hit the button a few times before it will actually move up. It's just the shitty nature of the Dorman parts.... other parts may also have the same issue. Also save your receipt because it will break 6 months down the line whether you use the window or not.
