Made absolutely no sense that a particular body style with the same engines that were built on the same assembly line intermixed with cars that were recalled was skipped originally. At this point, the only reason I can think of he wouldn't have the recall showing is that it has already been done. In which case he should have one of the big silver recall stickers on his door sill. Though I don't know what the recall number is for these cars that would be shown on the sticker - I am 1700 miles away from my car.

I definitely think it could be OP's problem based on the description.
