took my 2007 328xi to get a $150 diagnostic lol

i highly doubt these estimates are accurate based off the research ive done today. this shop repairs a lot of old german cars and specializes in them. but im not about to overpay them just because of that.

obviously i can do the lights myself and the fuel leak i can do. but the other things? suggestions? should i buy the parts and take it to an indy shop? drop diy video links pls

They look like reasonable prices for a German car Indy shop. The bulbs in the headlights are easily access by removing the wheels and fender liner. Rear bulb is via an access panel. Fuel tank sender is easily access by removing the rear seat and access panel.

The VCG is a bit above novice level work. The CCV system hose usually breaks. The OFHG is not hard with the correct tools. It's best to drain the coolant and engine oil. At the age of your car, while the coolant is drained, you should do the Mickey Mouse flange.

Most all of those repairs are covered in the DIY section or by most of the on line part sellers.

Those are the prices when you have an Indy do them, I've DIY'd everything except the water pump/thermostat on my E92, I simply didn't have time to wait on parts and do the job. I have learned a lot about my car, take pride in its condition and have saved a great deal.

Those prices do not look out of line for a shop, the OFHG seems a bit high but that involves partial draining and refilling of coolant too. Two quarts will do it, no need to drain the whole system.

Do not just replace the valve cover gasket, since the valve cover needs to come off. Do the whole new valve cover with the 3-way CCV hose (see both sample kits below).

Check for oil in the eccentric sensor connector. If there is oil there, then the sensor ($250) needs to be replaced. You can check DIYs and videos, see if you can change the valve cover yourself. I use $200 Uro.

If your car still has the original factory Bosch coils, swap them out for Delphis. Bosch coils are unreliable and from what I read in the forum, BMW switched over to Delphi.

$700 for OFHG seems high, but $900 for VCG is not crazy, IMHO.
