E93 330i runs rough after about 20 miles
Hi All , i'm new to the forum and am hoping some of you guru's can offer some guidance or share similar experiences
My E93 330i seems to run really rough after about 20 miles worth of driving The car has always has a slight intermittent misfire on Cylinder 4 ( according to scan tool ) i have replaced plugs and coilpacks x 6 and this made the car alot worse to the point where i thought the engine was no good as it sounded like chain slap from cam chain , the more swapping of parts between banks/cylinders made slight differences ( some better some worse ) i eventually decided to disconnect the battery overnight and charge it , after reconnecting a full battery the car ran great for 20 miles then went back to running rough , i thought must be the battery or alternator so had them tested and all good , left the car for a week as was getting a little disheartened , i tried starting it again last week ad again ran rough ( chain slap etc ) then disconnected the battery again for approx 20 mins ( without charging this time ) and after reconnecting it ran perfect , took if for a drive and again ran perfect for 20 miles then started slightly misfiring and the chain slap came back , now every time i disconnect then reconnect the battery it runs great for 20-30 miles then starts running rough again - Any idea's on what it could be or anyone have the same issue |

Any codes present? Did you use OE coils/plugs? If NGK, did you gap them? That's certainly not the source of your issues but since you said it got worse, just checking

Hi whyzee125
I originally had bosch Coilpacks and plugs , replaced with same and they didnt seem to connect as securly as you would expect ( coilpack to plug and coil connector ) so went with NGK and all seemed to connect as you would expect , i am an electro-mechanical engineer by trade so have a feel for this type of thing , also got 2 x auto electricians out and they had no idea after running it through ista and the second one used his £2000 autel setup

Same Issue on my 325i N53
Hi , i have made a little ground on this but as yet not found a solution,
I still have the issues on my 330i which i had given up on and the car has been a drive ornament for the last 12 months but the other day i reset the Engine adaptations and learning ( Encoding ) on my 325i N52 and am getting the same issues as my 330i ( so now believe its nothing to do with the coils/plugs/injectors etc ( the car was running well with no codes before resetting the engine adaptations I have tried the relearn procedure a few times following the below link https://bimmerprofs.com/re-adaptatio...-using-ista-d/ but the car is still running rough and occasionally brings up a code for Injector 3 misfire any help would be appreciated or and advice on someone to take it to around the Derby ( UK ) area would be a great help |
