hard driving, burning smell..?
I was going between 100 and 140mph for like 5 minutes and I smelled a weird burning smell in the air coming in from the air vents... by the time I got home the smell was gone, did I burn something?

I've smelled the same thing, and in fact, it is more prominant in the trunk. Only happens after really driving the car hard. I assumed it was the brakes, but I really don't know.

I hope it is not burning rat poopoo in the vents.
Well I couldn't smell anything from under the hood when I was outside the car :-? It is a race car though, it is made to be driven hard! She'll be fine. It was fun speeding around with a riced out civic, a saleen mustang and a cbr... =) |

is your car manual?
it's probably your clutch then -- whether or not you were rev-matching a lot... it might just be your brakes... stopping from anywhere between 100-140 frequently puts tremendous strain on your brakes... hope your broke in your car properly first |

I remember somebody posted the exact reason why this happens, I tried to look for the thread but couldn't find it. I do remember many people saying that it's perfectly normal, and nothing to worry about.

Yeah, likely brakes, maybe clutch. New exhausts sometimes have a smell to them as well.

Its most likely your brakes or clutch. Those are normal after a hard drive. I get that too after a hard drive or even when the weather outside is past 100 degrees F and I go for a fairly spirited drive.

If the car is pretty new, it could just be the part id stickers from the factory burning off.
You may also just have driven through a bit of smoke without knowing it, and sucked it into the aircon

This might be a different issue since this thread is 5 years old. It's probably oil. You might have small seep and when you drive hard it burns.
