Bump.

Question .

B58 NGK sparkplug (94201) is 8 range, so 2 step colder for the N54.

N54 2 step colder (97506) got a larger tip than the B58, thus should technically reduce the fuel mileage.

However, you can use B58 sparkplug in the N54, but the N54coilpack wouldn't sit properly.

> Does anyone got the B58 coils + B58 sparkplug (heat range 8) ?

The only read I had, is someone reported that it fried his DME.

Heat range in its self doesn't put extra load on the DME. The loading on the DME is a function of the coil used and the dwell time it is set to and then how much energy it takes to produce a spark with the plug.

The biggest concern with the B58 plugs is that the connection to the spring is different which is why I am no offering adapters for the bottom of the springs. If a good connection wasn't made between the plug and spring that could cause issues.

I do measure the resistance of the B58 plugs to be slightly lower at 6k Ohm compared to a used stock plug that is 8k. I should measure a new stock plug to see if that is consistent. So perhaps that is why there is a resistor in the B58 coil but that is mostly for EMI reasons. With that said running the resistor is a more straight forward setup than removing it with my kit.

heat range does not change the power draw , but like you've mentioned the resistance does.

I know B58 plugs don't have the same tips, this is why I'm asking if someone did run B58coils+B58plugs on the N54.

I see 3 benefit :

- plug upgrade for tuned cars
- fuel economy since B58 got a smaller tip
- More reliable coils than generic N54 coils ( except the eldor)

I have a set that I plan to put in my car with my kit. It should be below 100 degrees in my garage soon so I can install my RB Twos and my port injection kit.

There are also some others that have bought my kit and are running B58 plugs (or will be shortly).

Worst case with the kit you can just unscrew the little adapters from the springs and run either plug. (how is that for a pun intended plug?)

There are pictures of the adapters in the FS thread. Linking from there:

I have a longer resistor delete adapter in stock now too for those that want to go that route with no actual spring modifications instead of using the resistors with the spring cut to length:

I wouldnt say b58 plugs are an upgrade and 2 step colder for most is not needed. rbryantaz kit is great, currently running n54 1step colder with No resistor

- 2 step colder N54 got a thicker tip.
- B58 are considered as 2step colder for N54, and smaller tip.

Smaller tip and larger gap is often better for gas mileage.
Already tuned N54 are gas heavy drinker, I wont say no for better efficiency.

But the only review stated that it fried his DME, which I doubt, but...

My options are the following ( I'm stock ignition now) :
1. Eldor coils + 2step NGK for N54
2. B58 coils + B58 sparkplug

(running a 6262 turbo on a 5'' FMIC)

Sounds good, I just want people to have options.
