Didn't work on 35d X5 (USA)
[QUOTE=torqueisking;21918081]Yet another EGR delete thread but I just had to share this one as it works really well and can be easily reversed for those of us in emission testing regions.
Credit for this discovery goes to TDIwyse who mentioned the effect of no............... Sorry getting in an older post but it's relevant. I got a 2009 X5 35d (USA), code P2457 for EGR and randomly power loss on hilly streets so I thought to do the EGR bypass through the paper clip trick but apparently it didn't work. I did the process exactly as mentioned by you, also saw the video through the link you provided. After completion got a new code P0405 and vehicle going into limp mode. Had to plug back the #5 black wire and then vehicle drives normal. Any views? Last edited by sha1; 07-19-2021 at 10:47 PM.. |

Hi, my 2014 535d has the same N57 engine as the one in your vehicle i believe.
When you say you performed this mod, you just removed pin#5 wire and plugged the connector back in? Did you have a tune done as well? If not, I assume you have the check engine light then? Cheers [QUOTE=Bob777;24987426]I was using this fix for year an a half on my 2014 X5 F15 35D. It works fine. My personal record was 5.2L/100km |

Hi, what year/engine?
N57? I have a 2014 535d (LCI), with N57. Did you have the EGR tuned out? Cheers, |

I completed this DIY on my LCI E70 X5D following the guide, though encounter 3 EGR related codes (40D4, 4C9E, 4CAE). CEL is on, but drivability wise everything seems ok. Just verifying to confirm I did everything correctly and no other issues should arise.

Could you maybe post some pics/video if you have the same kind of connector? |

Hi there
I stumbled on this thread whilst looking for EGR/Intake manifold cleaning articles. I was wondering if you did this on your 335D (now sold) or your BMW F10? I am looking to do something soon and then perhaps install the EGR block off plates later. Thanks Quote:

BMW X1 e84 2012 s drive
BMW X1 2012 s drive E84
I've been experiencing intermittent loss of power whilst driving and looking at sensor values via bimmerlink I've found that when the car loses power or goes into limp mode, the egr command value % was fluctuating everytime I had a dip in power. It happens on most lower gears and at high speeds since the valve is closed I don't experience any loss in power unless I reduce speed by letting go of accelerator and then try to gain that speed again it fluctuates slightly. At low gears power dips constantly. I removed the egr valve and cleaned it inside out with carb cleaner and even cleaned the electronic motor part. So now I can confirm on the BMW X1 e84 model the hack works. I ended up braking the flap to expose the wires when trying to reinstall it lol see pictures attached. I've wrapped the black wire with electrical tape and will drive it around a bit more later today and to work tomorrow evening so will see how coolant temp and egr behaves. This is a temp fix for me as I think I'll get it coded out after I blank it next month. I did have codes already based on the egr system but no new codes have flashed yet. Maybe after another 20 miles a new code will pop up. Otherwise it will be an easy fix to just reinsert the black wire if it happens on the way to work |

Update on the X1 now I'm seeing an eml on dash with 8 new egr related codes. I had 4 already, however there is no more reduced power and the car drives better. Can egr closed valve constant cause the swirl flaps to malfunction or break apart?

So final update on the X1 e84, it seems the egr valve starts to fluctuate from 0% to 30-40% when a regen is happening but after a regen is finished it goes back to 0% and stays that way.
My mpg has improved significantly and I reset the obd codes and now only see 4CAE. At least it won't be ruining my turbo till I have the time to do the full removal and delete and maybe even a stage 1 eco map. |

Blanking off plates
Has anyone got a picture of the blanking plate they used and where to install it?
i unplugged my egr and i'm not getting any check engine light or a warning on the dashboard? Does this mean the previous owner has removed it electronically already? Thanks. |

Hi guys! Unfortunately, this mod did not work for me. Lost torque and power after disconnecting #5 pin. So i just plugged it back in.
Quick question: If I just do an EGR valve and EGR Cooler delete, what happens to the connector? Do I leave this hanging by the side of the engine? |
