Transmission 4E86 & 4E87 codes (EGS Module)
07 E91 - yellow transmission cogwheel warning light with exclamation mark in the middle of it.
Car is now stuck in P. I can override it with the switch underneath the gear shift and put it into R, N and D however it appears to be stuck in 3rd gear when driving. This problem came about after I was fixing my e-brake, I was reinstalling the centre console and I accidentally broke the plug connector/wire that connects to the gear shift assembly. It's the connector at the front of the shift assembly right in the middle (2 wires - purple and brown colour). I purchased the replacement connector from BMW which comes with 2x wires and I had a auto electrician splice and crimp the wires together. I was hoping this would clear the codes straight away but it hasn't. I've used INPA to try and delete the codes after as well but it won't allow me to delete them! So now I'm unsure what the problem is. Could the connector or wires still be faulty? How do you check it? What else could this be? INPA 4E86 4E87 are solenoid 3 and 4 control circuit low. Appreciate any feedback! |

1) What Scan Tool or Software (such as INPA) do you have available? 2) What Codes Numbers are you reading & what DEFINITIONS of those codes or other Fault Details are read? 3) What Transmission Module (e.g. GS19x), Engine, vehicle Model & Build Month/Year? 4) What warning lights are on instrument cluster? 5) What specific Performance Faults are you experiencing? 6) What repairs or events occurred immediately BEFORE Faults/Warnings? Generally, those two faults (4E86 & 4E87) indicate issues with Solenoid Valves #3 & #4, but if both faults were saved at same time, it is likely there is an issue with the wiring in the area of the Gear Indicator, particularly if someone disassembled or damaged something in that area (shift lever area). Here is BMW Fault Code Lookup Fault Information Sheet for 4E87 related to GS19D Transmission Module: http://www.bmwfault.codes/XMLDiagVie...AANQA1ADAANAA= TIS has good wiring diagrams for the various electrical circuits of your vehicle. If you go to the following link and enter the last 7 characters of your VIN, you will get specific information for that vehicle: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/ If you need help finding the correct wiring diagram for your Transmission Module, let us know.
