Problems with my JB1
I recently installed the JB1 and dual cone intake. The power gains are just what the doctor ordered, except there have been some unintended consequences.
First off, let me say that Terry has been very helpful in attempting to resolve my issues and has very quick response times. But it is time to get a few more opinions before I go any further. To the problem - basically at top end speeds (very agressive or on the way to triple digits) my "half-full" yellow engine light is coming on. If I turn the car on and off it goes away. No issues casually driving around town and getting on it a little here and there - I've basically had to try to throw codes. I've double checked the pins, wiring, etc and also completed the solenoid bypass. Still the same issue. Terry suggested it may be a bad wastegate and to remove all mods and take it into the dealership. I have a couple problems with this... First I don't want to take my damn cowl off again or put back in my airbox or undo the soleniod bypass (ok- kind of a lame excuse but seriously what a pain). Secondly, I haven't had any service since early March (07 model) and I do not have the software upgrade as far as I can tell. I would really like to keep it that way but I know the first thing they will do is upgrade the god damn software. My ultimate question is it really a bad thing if the light comes on every now and again? The most important thing is I want to avoid any long term damage. While the light is annoying - realistically it will appear very infrequently and is easy to get rid of. Finally - if I do take the car in I want to be positively sure that the JB is not dectectable (after removed). Does this issue only apply to new software anyway? |

Take it out and drive stock for awhile. This will tell you if its a JB problem. I had the same issue with my JB2. The only way to find out and resolve the issue is to take it into the dealer and get the code scanned. But you really dont know if its a JB problem or a an actual issue with the car. Just drive stock for a week and if you get no codes reinstall the JB and go from there.

Normally it would be very rare for a JB1 to trigger a warning light. I never had one. Never had one on JB2, or JB2H on 91 octane. I only had issues after playing with the R switch, and then adding more H pills

Fuel pump issues use to start with a long cranking/hard start problem....not this. I have intermittant CEL's too..and I dont have the JB1/JB2 tune. I am gonna remove my less agressive tune for a week and see what happens. I have already been to the dealership once..and they replaced my vanos selenoid (whatever that is)..and put in a new program. Any speculation that the new program checks for certain value and now puts thru a CEL/limp mode if certain values are reached...like boost of X value?

Turns out it was a bad solenoid exhaust valve. Got it fixed at the dealer today. No more codes being thrown!
I guess it was pure coindence that the problem occured in the same time frame as the JB1 install. Even better... they didn't update my software! It was funny because when I asked my SA about it he said 'oh ya some dbag came in here the other day bitching that there was more turbo lag after a software update'. He claimed there was no difference and it was all in this client's head. Heh. |
