According to Helmut Marko , the RB20 ran with the wrong wings . Too much downforce and cold tires (!) As you can see in FP2...

Hamilton P1 in FP2, but not that much topspeed difference with Verstappen.
Verstappen didn't mention the "wrong wing", he says it's all in the tires why they didn't perform on one lap. Also said that long runs look a bit more competitive. |

They were doing a much different FP program here than everyone else...doing their homework if you will, and it should have them well prepared for the race. Also mind you last year's pole time was still ~1 second faster than the fastest time we have seen thus far and pole will likely be in the 1:30/1:31 range so we are nowhere near anyone running their outright pace yet. |

I believe it's more that their lowest drag wing is the Monza wing which they have on the car and they didn't develop a wing with lower downforce specific to Vegas whereas other teams may have lower downforce wings that are specifically well suited to this track. I heard something about a grinding wheel in play

Buddy who's at the race said it looked like the RB had flow-vis around mid-wings or whatever they're called, the lower rear wings, so they're probably trying to play with that to see what they can do without a new wing. That top speed is bad... Maybe they can keep up if they stay in DRS, but without that, oof. Going to be a bad weekend for RB.

Some Jeremy Clarkson commentary after Brazil, while we wait for some Vegas action ...
https://www.planetf1.com/news/lewis-...pen-comparison “We learned two important things during last weekend’s Grand Prix in Brazil. “Well, three, if you count Lance Stroll, who crashed his freshly repaired car on the formation lap. “And then drove it into a gravel trap. “First of all, Max Verstappen is one of the all-time greats. “He may even be the greatest driver we’ve ever seen. “And second, Lewis Hamilton is past his prime. “He blamed his car for his tail-end qualifying session but his team mate, George Russell, was on the front row. “Of course it’s possible that because Lewis is moving to Ferrari next year, the team are filling his fuel tank with lemon barley water instead of petrol. “But that seems unlikely. “It’s far more probable that he’s now too old.” |

"Nervous laughter"- this whole thread and the F1 world, collectively hoping that Hamilton Is washed.
And Max. Crazy how everyone has to tell you how good Max is supposed to be, but you're not allowed to trust your eyes? Eye test says he's not. |
