Do M-Sport Cars w/ Cold Weather have Heated Steering Wheel Clocksprings?
Hi all, I'm picking up a 2011 335d M-Sport after Thanksgiving. It does have the cold weather package, so has headlight sprayers, heated seats and fold down rear seats. However, since it's M-Sport, the heated steering wheel is replaced with the upgraded wheel.
I have been doing lots of digging on the forums to find a suitable replacement for my car. I don't want to give up the lovely M-Sport looks and feel, but being based in Wisconsin, I would love to have a heated steering wheel. My plan is to source an E89 Z4 M sport wheel w/ paddles and heat. Rare, yes. But they're out there. My question is, if my car has the cold weather package but had the heated wheel deleted from M-Sport, do I still have the heated steering wheel clockspring? I know I'll still need wiring for the heated wheel button, but curious if I'll need to retrofit the entire thing, clockspring included. Just want to get an idea beforehand, as I'm not actually able to pop the steering wheel off quite yet to check. Last edited by hoot.; 11-24-2024 at 10:46 PM.. Reason: typo |

I like your thinking! I bet you'll have to get the upgraded (12 pin???) plug that the heated steering wheels use. I don't know if you can use those on the old clock spring or need a dedicated one. Not much help, but my suspicion is no.

I doubt you'd have the clockspring, just get it, they're cheap.

good question, for sure someone tried it.
I got my clockspring on a super clean smashed E90 (assuming it was low mileage according to general car wear, air bag was ok) and was 20$ cad. From a non-sport steering wheel. I got a sport steering, with a M-look leather wrap and a M pack face. Not 100% genuine, but it does the job. However the wrap reduce the heat transfer. |

If it’s too hard to source that heated z4 wheel;
You could go f series wheel with a CAN converter box to get cruise control switches on the wheel - a must for me. I went with then pre-LCI f10 msport wheel. Going LCI is way more expensive but that is the ultimate BMW steering wheel. |
