DME in a fish bowl
Car died but after a few hours drove again like normal. After awhile dies again. Found the dme sitting in water so dried it out and cleaned it. The dme is connecting but throwing random codes everytime it's plugged in.
Do you guys think it's cooked, runs rough if it starts. Added some pics of the issues, the drain was blocked so added some extra holes. Will I need a clone done and if so who can do it in Brissy. Cheers Last edited by Fords290; 11-24-2024 at 05:03 AM.. |

Hi mate, sorry to hear your problems. Have you tried posting in the General forum? I remember seeing a number of posts in the past from other members about water in their electrical compartments, but I don't recall this specific issue.
If you need someone in Brissy to do coding, I did find a Facebook group called BM Retrofitz when I was looking into getting my CIC coded, but I never ended up using them so can't comment on their work personally. But they look like they can do heaps of custom coding, elect repairs and retrofits. |

the DME by itself is glued and dme connectors also have rubber
so remove plugs from DME and check if you have rust pins otherwise also check the fuses and relays nearby, they are not proteced as DME is

Thanks mate, went through it all and pulled the DME covers as well. All looked good besides the water line on the circuit board.

Update: car is back to normal, put the dme in a bag of rice for 24 hrs and that worked until I unplugged dme and put it back in the holder then it went back to shit again.
Took out dme and left in the sun as I was told to bake it in the oven for an hour, the sun in QLD is hot enough so left it out for 2 hrs and bang she is back to normal with no codes. I am yet to unplug and put back in the holder so she it's getting air time under the bonnet 😉 |

Hi mate, I just remembered something else as well. Check the DDE relay (blue one I think), when that usually starts going it causes start issues. Disconnect the battery and pull all the relays in that box compartment and check the condition of all the terminals for any corrosion or oxidation buildup. I also remeber reading that the DDE relay issue is so common some people even carry a spare relay in their glovebox just in case they get stranded.
