Help, gear not engaging
Hey guys I'm in a situation now where my gearbox will not engage any gear, other than park. Couple days back, I brought it to a workshop to get the flywheel oil seal replaced, which the mech had to drop the gearbox to do so.
Yesterday when I was driving, the gear refused to go into park mode. So when the gear selector was in D it was in Drive and N was in neutral, but when the gear selector was in R it was in neutral still and when in P it was in reverse. I tried for a good 10 minutes bringing the gears up and down till it was finally in park mode (I know that wasn't good but I had to park the car and get the key out). Today I was leaving to the workshop to get it checked cause I'm pretty sure they didn't fix something back the way it was supposed to be causing the whole issue but regardless of which mode the gear selector was in, its still in park mode, and when I shifted through the gear selector, there was no 'bump' that you would usually feel showing that the gears are being selected, the selector just went up and down smoothly. Anyone knows what could be the issue before I call a tow? Could it be a wiring issue that could be fix without towing or hoisting the car? Appreciate any help or advice I can get, I live in Singapore and we park our cars in shared carparks so we can't really DIY our cars, but I would like to avoid getting a tow because it costs so much here. ![]() |
