N52 - strange metallic noise over 2k rpm

Hi all!

I have an e90 with n52b30 engine, pre face lift. For a few weeks now I have been hearing a strange noise coming from the engine when revs go above 2k rpm. It usually stops after a while of use, after about 20-30 minutes of driving. No fault code is thrown by the car, and the engine doesn't feel like anything is wrong. I also tried listening, but couldn't make out where the sound was coming from in the engine compartment, but I don't think it's coming from the front area. Could it be just the cold? Or does it indicate a problem?

Here is a video how it sounds:

I’ve seen instances of these cars making a whining sound similar to that when the oil filter is goofed up, check your oil filter is it crushed? Installed properly? And make sure the plastic cage is in there, sometimes th easy get thrown away with the old oil filter and I believe can cause low oil pressure as well as a whining sound similar to yours. Hope this helps update us with your results

It's not the oil filter sadly. I just did an oil change around a week ago, so the oil filter is new, and I used OEM mann filter. The sound was there before the oil change aswell. The plastic thing is in the oil filter cap aswell. It's a little bit loose, but I don't think that's the cause of this noise.

Is there any chance that bad CCV causing this sound? I replaced the CCV around half a year ago, but with a cheaper aftermarket one, so I'm not really confident with it's quality.

Also I checked if there is any vacuum leaks by doing a smoke test, but I didn't find any vacuum leak.
