Which downpipe to get?

Any words of wisdom on which of these three downpipes I should go with? There's a pretty dramatic difference in price. Is there any way the RawTek is worth so much more money?

Some guys have had goodluck with the Aliexpress downpipe, other's not so much. VRSF fits fine as well. I wouldn't pay the price for the Rawtek.

Love my VRSF. Bolted up like OE.

Might be hard to find people that have handled all of those, as once this part is in, it's not like you replace it.

Thank you guys. I appreciate that. I'll go with the VRSF. Yeah, the RawTek is painfully expensive.

One quick follow-up question. The picture on the VR-Speed website doesn't show the two bosses where I need to re-attach a couple sensors. Does this pipe have those? Odd that the photo wouldn't show them.

Yes the VR Speed has the sensor threads. My dad swapped out the VR downpipe for an ATM catted downpipe to cut down on the exhaust smell. Both worked fine and had no problems fitting.

Confirmed, the VRSF has the threads for the sensors. My brother just installed one last month.

There are a lot of comments about the smell. I personally don't mind it, in fact I like it, but it's definitely a strong old school diesel exhaust smell. Reminds me of an old Ford 7.3. Any idea why these M57s smell like that? Is it the tunes? I know a modern deleted Cummins doesn't even smell like these deleted and tuned M57s.

How effective is the catted ATM pipe?

I'm not sure what gives it a strong smell but the cat helps a lot. On a score of deleted to stock I would rate it 65% of the way to stock.

There was a guy on FB group NABDOG selling a used Rawtek for decent price. Might go over and do a search.

The VRSF used to have an issue with the EGT 1 bung not being done right and the sensor would not seal. People would have to cut the bung shorter I believe to correct problem. IDK if VRSF has corrected the situation where this isn't problem now.

I'm thinking about having a local guy weld in a cat for my non-catted VRSF dp. I agree with another poster up there, even my 3rd gen Cummins smell isn't as strong as this BMW. I didn't drop the money because I had someone say the cat really doesn't cut down on the smell much.

But I can say now, def the first morning puff is pretty eye watering. Def have to make sure I'm out of the garage or the door is all the way open or it'll dust the garage and be there for a while

I've used several versions of DOC and CATs. My wife's X5D has the buzzken CAT on it circa 2017. I hear Buzzken has updated CAT since but I can't comment to latest. It does alright I guess but still some stink.

My 335d has went through 3 stages. When first deleted, I ran straight through non catted version and only resonator on the aftermarket exhaust. It was too drony between 1600-200 rpm especially when under load (going up mountain).

I got a 2nd hand BMW DPF and gutted the DPF but kept the DOC. I ran this and had least stinky exhaust with it. I ran this way a couple few years and it did fine. The drone was gone and I couldn't hear turbo whistle hardly at all.

I eventually wondered if i was sacrificing performance with the OE DOC and swapped to an ATM with CAT on it. Exhaust was a bit louder again with a bit of whistle. Smell was a little worse but still MUCH BETTER than the straight downpipe was.

A guy offered to by my gutted DPF. I offered to sell for what it cost me to build it and he declined. I know people give DPFs away now but I had to pay $300 for way back in the day and another $70 for welder to reseal it up. If someone wants to try the gutted DPF, drop me a private message and give me an offer. It is the 335D type which is different than X5D type.

I should correct myself, I currently have the non-catted ATM dp, and really would like the catted version. Maybe after/during the manual swap
