[E92] Adding Apple CarPlay to 335is w/ no CIC
Hello all!
I'm looking to purchase a 2011 335is and my only concern is that it does not have iDrive/CIC, which is used to add Apple CarPlay in most options. I understand that there are options to replace the existing radio with a touchscreen, but this isn't appealing to me, as I'd like to have CarPlay and GPS information on the dashboard for easier navigation. I've seen multiple threads on adding CIC to non-CIC cars, which seems to involve getting the wiring harnesses for the iDrive, the CIC head unit, and a dashboard to retrofit it. From here I could add any of the CarPlay options, whether it's the entire screen replacement or the middleman box connected to the CIC. My specific questions are: 1) Are there any vendors that would sell the piece of trim to add the CIC control knob to a DCT 335is? 2) Is there anything specific to the is variant that I should be aware of? 3) Is this the only route to getting CarPlay on? Meaning, are there options where I only buy the dashboard (Seems to go for 300-400 USD) and drop in the CarPlay screen without retrofitting the entire CIC system? Any additional comments/advice would be appreciated! |

There are things like this
that generally work through the aux which reduces audio fidelity . note this guy uses a Mr12volt interface to feed audio to the car stereo. This is basically a ipad that feeds the aux. There are threads about similar stuff if you search here and on the internet. |

I have a mr12volt I don't have one of the Carplay/android systems.
You should go to the original thread or contact the Doctor if you want one of those. |
