Got an engine malfunction light on startup this AM - haven't driven it in a few days. I'm actually glad. I think this is the cause of the weirdness I've experienced with this car (stumbling on startup) since I bought it at 70K. Intake VANOS code, already ordered 2 solenoids (OE Pierburg). Hopefully that's finally the end of that. The other codes are from when it was smoke tested and sensors were disconnected.

After work I was able to swap in the new Angel eye bulbs. Passenger side no issues at all.

Driver's side? The one that had burned out. US market LCI 335d. I admittedly have largish hands. I had to remove the power steering reservoir bracket just to get the bulb out. I really need to teach my wife how to do this in the future.

Once I could reach it, no issue.

The bulb that came out was for sure the original. Said Philips Germany on it and looked rather aged.

No more faults. I'm happy.

In fact, ever since I put the DEF treatment in, I haven't had another sensor fault. Been about 300 miles since then. I expect it'll show up again, but what if it doesn't?

Bought an e90 320d with 66k on clock, sport plus edition nice spec I believe because it's a later model just before the f series came out.

Today, I changed the cabin particle filter.
Nice easy job. 8mm ratchet socket.

Especially since only 2 of 6 the self tapping screws still have any purchase into the plastic...

Why do they use stupid things like this on a part that meant to be serviced on a regular basis?
Admittedly, it's a 13 year old car, but still.
Anyone had any luck with a repair or fix for them?

Well yesterday I swapped in a new windshield washer pump on the 06' 325i.

Today I sold it.

I had bought it as my sons first car. I gave him my Mustang GT on his 18th birthday last year and have been driving the 325 until I picked up the 335d 2 weeks ago.

It was mostly sorted. Things I've done in the last 3 years. All work performed by me.
Drivers side rear ABS Sensor.
Drivers door lock actuator.
Swapped in CIC idrive.
New valve cover, oil filter housing, and oil pan gaskets.
All new front suspension arms and strut mounts.
All new cooling system(Radiator/hoses) minus water pump and coolant bottle.
New Alternator.
New coils and plugs.
Swapped out the scuffed up passenger side doors with replacement doors and a trunk lid from the pull-a-part.
Wiper motor assembly from the pull-a-part
New Right rear window regulator.
new CCV System.
eBay Drivers side headlight and control module.
New tires 12/23. Maybe 8k on them now.

Good friends 17 year old niece has been looking for her 1st car. Let it go for what I paid for it before all the work. Not unhappy about that.

He will be the maintenance overseer on that one going forward.

People tend to over-torque fasteners because they don't understand how fasteners really work.

Today I tried to address a couple small things, but they make a big difference in the end.

The A/C compressor was making some noise but only when engaged. After looking at a few threads I found that adding compressor oil to the A/C lines is one of the best ways to mitigate this. I recovered the Freon pulled a vacuum and added about two ounces (not to over do it) and added Freon according to the label under the hood. Compressor is nice and quiet and A/C is ice cold.

Cowl squeak came back as I posted before and I torqued down the bolt that keeps the strut tower braced in place, with a beaker bar. I snug the bolt but not too much as it is a stretch bolt. Squeak is now gone.

Another squeak was from the blower motor. Added some odorless bearing fluid and spun the fan. Did this a few times to ensure penetration (grow up LOL) and it still squeaks a bit but time will tell if it will go away as I feel like it may work itself in a bit more. If not, I’ll order one but it certainly is quieter.

Placed the plugs in the duct work under the center console going to the back seat passengers. Finally no airflow causing the center console to be extremely hot.

I had a cigarette lighter Bluetooth tuner under the arm rest and it recently broke. Not too upset as it was on its last leg and because it had hands free it caused more complications that not when receiving calls in the car. Both the car and the hands free Bluetooth fought for connection and calls would go in and out. I purchased a Bluetooth aux cord dongle that doesn’t receive calls and plugs in a usb port for power. Used the cigarette lighter next to the aux port with a USB charger and plugged it in there which is perfect. Now I will say, there’s always a lot of negative comments about aux cord sound. I compared radio and cd quality to the aux and to me there’s no audible difference. I really enjoy my music and will listen to anything and enjoy the clarity and bass.

You know come to think of it I fibbed a little in my post.
I bought the parts, but in many cases, made my son do the work.

I told him if you get stuck, I'm here to help.

He usually got it done on his own and I would inspect it afterwards.

Not the suspension stuff though. That was me.

I doubt he'll be having her do the work. He has access to my shop and lift.

Removed more snow off the car. We’ve had several small snow showers lately.

Can’t wait to wash and wax my E90.

Swapped back to summers. I soooo missed the look!

Was disappointed in Discount Tire this time. I much prefer my usual location.
Didn't put tires with most tread up front to even out wear, didn't air them up to spec. Each one was 20psi

Bought a new lower cable guide/tray, but it’s the $300 lower micro filter aka giant plastic piece that is bad, not the $20 guide. Thinking there has to be a way to use a self tapper or similar to retain the guide sans zip ties, and not have to replace the entire plastic piece between the strut towers just so it will stay clipped in.

Yeah, that would spoil her, working as a 1st time DIY'er under a lift. I had to endure 20 years of DIY-with-jackstands before I got mine.

Can you find used ones for cheap? Although it's probably the kind of part that gets busted up a lot.

I installed mine in May of last year. All the suspension, exhaust, driveshaft, oils pan gasket was done prior to that. It was the final straw. I am too old to be climbing up off the ground all the time.

One of these days I won't be able to get back up.

And I also turned off the constant oil service reset reminder in the Kombi today on the 325.

I sold it yesterday but they are not picking it up until I have the CCV heater recall done. I didn't realize until Thursday it was illegal for me to sell the car without the recall completed. Oops. Now I know.

Car is at 181k miles. I changed the oil at 179k. I tried to reset but it wouldn't let me as the count had expired or something along those lines. So the constant service due error has been happening. Glad its shut off now.
