Bmw for my height

I am 6’5” tall. I’m looking to get a BMW but I am indecisive on which one I want to buy should I buy a 2018 BMW M550 or a 2018 BMW X5 40e?

You're going to have to sit in both of them to try them on for size, and then decide if either one offers a fit that's right for you.

At 5'2 I'd hope you have tons of space above your head lol

I'm 6'5 with a Charles Barkley type of arse and I have no problems with height in my G30.

I will probably look at an SUV setup (ie X5 or IX) for my next ride, but only because it would be easier to get in and out. I have actually found less room in the big 4x4s that I have driven in, than in the saloons.

I don’t do SUVs (trucks), but I’ve driven the 2018 X5 40e and it’s a good SUV. I do believe BMW produces the best SUVs. Excepting Porsche, but they don’t really have the same utility and are really in a different category.

However, my recommendation would be to try a 2018 G30 540i. I think V8s are overrated and I’m definitely an inline six snob. The B58 makes plenty of power and it really is all the power you need. Plus, the B58 is very reliable and BMW’s V8 just always seems to have little niggling issues their sixes don’t. I will grant you it will be easier to find an M550i than an equivalently sport equipped 540i.

If you want to post links to vehicles you’re considering we can take a look and let you know if we see any red flags.

You know the (these days only driver's?) seat height can be adjusted, don't you? And it's recommended to seat higher for better visibility which is more important in regular traffic than a low gravity center (well, unless your butt is too heavy to be ignored ).

It will be easier to maintain the sills/skirts wiping them clean with your trousers every time.

You claim you have an older 5 Series already. Newer models are always larger. It's just electric seat is higher than manual if you have it.

In which one do you fit better? Or do you fit at all?

A guy I know is 7 feet tall. He could fit in a Mazda 2. However, he does not fit in many other cars.

There was plenty of room for him in my G01 X3 M40i.

I’m in my late 40s I’ve owned several BMWs but they Mainly been sedans. I like this 2018 BMW X5 40e. But I am looking at a 2018 BMW M550 I never had a high performance sport sedan. Should I get a BMW M550? I’m kind of indecisive.

The X5 will definitely have more headroom that the 5 series sedan.

If you can find a nice F95 X5 M50i you'll get the SUV headroom and the N63 T2 plus engine from the M550i.

Just worth pointing out that my personal 6’ frame may be different from others. I’ve got longer legs, but if you’ve got a longer torso it could change how you sit in a vehicle even at the same height. Longer torso going to put your head closer to the ceiling.. so this is all to say that it’s just worth sitting in the vehicle you have the most interest in.

Years of driving low sling sports cars, and being a little taller in general mean so always sit as low as I can. I just don't like sitting high up in the car.

I forgot the X5 40e has a four banger. That would knock it out for me. What is your budget? Mileage limits?

Just sharing this because I’m an inline six snob. It’s a very loaded 2018 540i with the M Sport pkg, M Sport suspension, and a bunch of other options. It has the staggered, summer/performance wheels and tire setup, so it has the increased speed limiter of 155 mph. https://www.bmwofplano.com/used-inve...BMW&model=540i

This one is in Connecticut. A 2019 xDrive 540i M Sport pkg, M Sport suspension, but square tires, so 130 mph limiter. 60k miles, but less expensive. https://www.bmwofnorthhaven.com/inve...cpo.bmwusa.com

Wow!! There aren’t many G30 M550i’s out there!! I think you ought to give that Dallas car a serious look!! I had a very hard time finding a 540 with the M Sport pkg!

I don’t know this guy personally, but I’m very familiar with him from these forums. If you are interested I could go look at the car for you. I live in Chicago and he lives in the burbs. https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2153898

There’s not an M550i even in the G30 forum.

A 540i xDrive in Alexandria, VA with M Sport pkg and M Sport suspension with staggered wheels and tires and 155 mph speed limiter, which is relatively rare on xDrive cars. This is Certified and BMW is offering 5% financing and 90 days before the first payment, which ends today, but it’s very likely will be carried over. https://www.bmwofalexandria.com/cert...70acf83989.htm

You just have to sit in the cars and preferably take them on a decently long test drive. I'm 6'5" and have no issues in a E82 135i. There may be problems if I ever go autocrossing with it due to possible headroom issues with a helmet on.

I was given a 5 series loaner a while back when I had my 1er in for service. I think it was a 530d. My SA thought I'd be really impressed with the car. I couldn't wait to turn it back in. While I had plenty of room all over, the driver's seat was horrendous for me. No matter how I tried to adjust it, the seat was causing lower back pain for me. None of this happened in my 1er.

This might be above your budget, but I would highly recommend considering it if you can. I sent the guy a PM and linked this thread. It has the Dynamic Handling pkg, which includes Dynamic Damper Control and Active Roll Stabilization. Active Roll Stabilization is a total game changer for the 5er!!! It improves the handling beyond description!! The car is on the east coast. There’s a photo of it in post #7.

He says he’s taken it off the market until the spring.

This is the truth. I am 5’7” (above avg height for an American woman) but my legs are the same length as one of my dear friends who is 6’3”. He’s all torso, but I’m all leg. I have to move my seat up pretty high but it’s almost all of the way back. Heh

I like the input that everyone has given me and I appreciate that I made my decision. I bought a 2014 BMW 528I X Dr. a couple days ago. So now I have two BMWs. The other one is a 2001 BMW 530i. pictures will be coming soon.

I went from an RS3 to an X3M Comp and absolutely hated it. But always eventually end up back in a BMW, lol.
