Monkey wrenching gone wrong? Help! Valvetronic motor gasket replacement fail?

Hey guys, so I thought I was getting the hang of wrenching after replacing my spark plugs, coils, and upstream o2 sensors. Went to replace my valvetronic motor gasket and now my dashboard is a Christmas tree. Im bewildered at this because I didn’t expect replacing this gasket to create such a problem for me. But before I tow this thing was hoping I could get some insight here. And bec of my wrenching results now I’m probably gonna hang it up.

For context, I followed the valvetronic motor removal process from the [FCP Euro valve cover gasket replacement video.]

(15m mark)

Pretty much my steps here were:
+ Unplug negative terminal from battery

+ Removed valvetronic motor harness

+ Removed valvetronic motor bottom bolt

+ Turned valvetronic motor gear clockwise until tension

+ Backed out valvetronic motor mounting screws (n51 engine) while simultaneously backing out (counter clockwise) valvetronic gear to release it gently.

+ Replaced valvetronic gasket and cleaned off oil residue on valvetronic motor

+ Put valvetronic motor in and turned gear clockwise to pull it in onto the eccentric shaft

+ Put the screws back on

+ Put the battery negative terminal back on

+ Put key in position 2. At this point I saw a brake light indicator on my dashboard which wasn’t normal but assumed the car needed to calibrate?

+ Pumped accelerator 10x then started it. Car had a rough start but

What in the world did I do wrong here? I should also add that I am a genius and closed my trunk after taking off the battery negative terminal. So I had to remove the back seat a bit in order to get to the manual latch using a stick…

Did you clear the codes and see what came back? And what is the voltage / condition of the battery, these cars are VERY picky about battery health.

Seems like the transfer box codes are still there? These are the only ones that couldn’t clear? Is it possible that I need to register the battery again? I just checked the scanner battery and it says the charge is at 53% vs 60% yesterday morning when k had the codes come up after install.
