Car broker?

I bought a 325i in 2004 and really like the CA that worked with me. He sold it to me for $300 over invoice and it was fully decked out. I also noticed he had all kinds of awards around his desk and he was one of BMW's top sales associates and sold a little over 200 cars a year.

So I gave him a call recently because I was looking at the 335i and he no longer works for BMW. Instead, he said he formed his own company and can buy cars from any dealership including Mercedes, Audi, BMW, etc and he can get a good deal because he buys 5-6 cars a month from these dealers.

Has anyone heard of a job like this? Sounds to me like he's a freelance sales associate for any dealer, but gets better pricing because he buys so many cars.

You might want to go directly to fleet deal manager and they would offer you a competitive deal, since broker get their cars from dealer anyway and there is so much room they can work with. Good luck

There are many car brokers in So Cal... I bought my e90 through a broker for $500 over invoice. It's the same thing as buying it through a dealer but with a middle man. (middle man = more money) <--- typically...

Not quite. A car broker gets the fleet discount and passes a portion of that on to the buyer. I bought a Toyota in 1984 through a car broker and, even with the broker's markup, I think I paid less than $200 over invoice. Wouldn't have seen that pricing anywhere near a showroom floor.

Usually someone buying only one vehicle won't qualify for a fleet purchase. However, some organizations like credit unions have special fleet pricing through specific dealers.

car brokers or leasing companies usually sells it cheaper than dealerships-since they have a small overhead. Only drawback is the servicing of the car,once service asks you where you purchased the car from,it's also harder to get loaners-because of course,first priority is their own customers.
But if you dont care-go for it and good luck!!

I’ve dealt with one of the best brokers to get an auto that was hard to come by when it was first released. Sure the broker can get a great price but then add in his fee and you are looking at a deal that is probably no better (maybe a little worse) than what you can get on your own. The advantage is you don’t have to hassle with the bargaining process or the headache of finding that rare vehicle when there is only 2 in the country at the time of purchase.

As for the service comment, the way BMW dealers are stingy with loaners would apply even if you bought the car yourself from another dealer for a good price. In my case the broker found the vehicle, had it shipped to my local dealer and then delivered it to me from there. But like I said I used a great broker.

There is no need to use a broker for any current or planned BMW. There is no BMW that is in such demand that a good dealer wont be able to get his hands on one for you just as fast as a broker. Brokers are typically used when you want a specific trim/color and you want it asap on a $100k+ vehicle in low supply. Then you get your moneys worth out of using a broker. Any other time you use a broker you are just paying to be lazy.

A good broker should be used to scour the country to find you a good deal on that rare vehicle. Don’t use a broker to get you something you can get yourself by walking into any local dealer.
