Just bought a 335i coupe, need some help please
Hi guys, i have searched and found no help so if anyone could give some advice it would be gretly appreciated.
i just bought a black 335i coupe and all four tyres were worn, so i spoke to a few places and they said it was ok to put non run flats on the car. so i did. Since the new tyres, within 20minutes of them fitted, the tyre light came up and stays on yellow. if i press reset nothing happens, it stays on. a few hours after that, the traction control light came on and is now deactivated, also the yellow handbrake light came on meaning the auto hill assistant has also stopped working. im sure this is all to do with me fitting new tyres but how do i get rid of these and make everything work again? Thanks Dean |

i know the tyre light doesn't go away from just resetting. you have to reset and drive for a few miles and then it goes away.
don't know about the other lights.

Before you do and possibly get unnecessary charges by the dealer, make sure the PSIs are correct, reset the system and drive around for a little bit, and if it hasn't gone away yet, then go to the dealer.

like james said, i would check the tire pressure first and if the pressure is normal then, i know this may sound stupid, but try to find out if the tire pressure sensors weren't taken off or something. i know it sounds far fetched, but there can be an idiot or two working in a shop. wont hurt to try before taking it to the dealer.

Deano: *Drops the car off at BMW dealership*
Deano: *waits for the dealership to fix his issue* 15 minutes later, the SA returns with some bad news: SA: "well, your 'NEW TIRE MOD' caused your suspension to be unbalanced and all of your shocks blew out" Deano: "what the hell?" SA: "yeah I know, its pretty serious." Deano: "what do you mean?" SA: "well we replaced your entire suspension. that will be $6,200 please sign here..." Deano: "$6200!?? FOR WHAT!?" SA: "Well the suspension parts cost only $2000 but we had them special ordered from Germany for your car, and burned the old parts." Deano: *kills self creatively* Moral of the story: dealer visits are a LAST RESORT... Yeah, Im bored... |

yes^...wow. A tad melodramatic. I think it's smart to try what everyone else has said:
1. Inflate the tires to the proper PSI, you can follow the guidelines on your door/door jamb. 2. Reset the system and try driving around a little bit. 3. Also if you have the means, you may want to find someone else with a BMW that has TPMS in their wheels. This way you can possibly check if yours are bad. A tire place can damage the TPMS if they do not know how to dismount or mount wheels with TPMS installed. 4. It couldn't hurt to find some independent BMW repair shops in your area to have them do a quick check over before you resolve to taking your car to the dealership.

Hi, thanks for the replies. The tyre sizes are front: 225/35/19 and rear:255/35/19 All NON run flats.
I checked all tyre pressures and topped them to about 37 all around, drove, reset, drove more and still the same thing. the guys at the tyre place did not damage the sensors as i told them to be careful and watched their every move. Someone reversed into the car last night and casued a bit of damage so it is being picked up on monday by my BMW dealer to get the bodywork done. While its their its getting a full service, and hopefully the rattle im hering from the front section of the exhaust will be fixed under warranty, and ill also get them to sort out all of these lights and get everything working again. Im just scared they are gonna turn around and say "you dont have runflats, we cant do anything untill you put runflats back on" in which case i will be very annoyed. Dean |

Aha, indeed you are correct, the ones he took off were 30 however he said if i want matching set front and rear he will put 35 on the rear and said they will be fine.
Would something as small as that really cause all of these issues? sorry to be a pain but how can 5% difference in sidewall size completely ruin the setup? and surely that means we are restricted to one particular size? what if one was to put on 18s instead of 19s? surely the lights would come up and would be in the same situation. Thanks for all of your help so far guys, really appreciate it. Dean |

Know what, you should have no problems taking it to the dealer. I was there today and my light was lit. I did have a nasty wall bump and asked the SA if I cold take off the RFT since I have broken 3 in less than a year. He told me no problem and that I could still call roadside assistance in case a tire fails. Hope it helps!
BTW, the light went off when I inflated the damaged tire to 32 psi; no need to reset anything in my case!
