How to check CIP version?

Hi guys,

Just brought home my brand new 330i but cant get either my RAZR or my Blackberry to connect. It's a May 2006 build car; shouldn't it have the latest software? How do I check which CIP version my car has?

Thanks.

I don't think you can, only the dealer can tell by hooking up to their computer.

Someone else can chime in here if I'm wrong.

Hrm, my RAZR connects fine. Are you sure you're doing it right? Your CA should be able to pair your phone for you.

One thing that I thought was wierd about the BMW system was that with a Mac, your mac creates the passkey that you enter in on the telephone. With BMW, you manually enter the passkey on both the car and the phone to pair them up.

Other than that, it works "mostly ok" ... only annoyance is that if a call gets dropped, it "hangs" the phone functionality until I hit the end button on my phone, otherwise the car thinks the call is still in progress but won't let me hangup and redial.

A May build would have almost the latest software.

Is the sw of mobile devices the right version?

What happens when you try to connect.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I had my CA try and he couldnt do it either. This is what I'm doing...

On the Bluetooth Settings menu on my car, I activate (check) the bluetooth enabled option. Then on my RAZR, I make the phone discoverable and ask it to search for devices (and it shows a progress bar, looks for other bluetooth devices, but doesnt find anything).

As far as RAZR software, I bought mine over a yr ago....soon after it was launched. How would I upgrade my firmware? Didnt see anything the Moto site.

Are you still in the communications menu when you're trying to connect? Where it says "Bluetooth connectable"? You have to do that.

Is this your E90? is it i-Drive or non-i-Drive?

Edit: er, nm I see NAV in your sig. My car is non-i-Drive and it paired up fine.

I assume its a Razr V3 - It needs firmware R74_G_0E.40.0CR. Its the 40 bit thats important in that string. Must be 40 or higher - The other parts of the string may vary slightly.
Check it on the phone at Settings / Phone Status / Other Information / S/W Version.

Useful resources
www.hellomoto.com - Official Motorola site - has SOME updates for SOME territories.
motorola.howardforums.com - Unofficial message board, but a definitive resource
www.planetmotox.net - Unofficial s/w upgrade & RAZR modding site

Upgrading the s/w on your phone carries some risks - be sure that you are happy with these before attempting the upgrade yourself. You could try contacting motorola support, maybe they can do it, ot a phone shop may me able to to the upgrade for you. (Ps the sites talk about Flashing and Flexing - you need to "Flash" your phone - leave the "Flex" alone!)

Good luck, once you get the software versions right, the V3 is a very stable phone to use with the E90.

So I checked my RAZR, and I do have a '40' in the string, same as what you noted. I think it may have to do with the software in my car, but I'm surprised since it was just built in May.

Thanks for your help.

OK, A quick check on settings and pairing procedure. I'm assuming you have iDrive as you say NAV in your sig..........

On the phone set
"Bluetooth Link / Setup / Name" = Whatever you want, but dont change it after phone is paired to car. This will appear on the bottom line of the display.
"Bluetooth Link / Setup / Power" = ON
"Settings / Car Settings / Auto Handsfree" = ON

Set the car to be contactable. The menu names may vary but it probably "Communications / Bluetooth / Settings". The screen will say "Bluetooth connectable in theis menu" - Leave it in this menu

(on the Phone)
"Bluetooth Link / Setup / Find Me" - this only stays active for a short time.

The devices should see each other - choose a PIN and enter it on both devices as prompted.

(Added clarification "(on the Phone)" several hours after original posting)

Make sure your phone is on "Discoverable" or "Set to find" or "Find me", I've noticed that I overlooked that option when working with BT with RAZRS..

Thanks guys, I finally got it to work. I've head my head spinning with all the new things to learn on the E90 and I wasn't following directions carefully :-(.

All is well now!
