Jacking Up E92

I need to take wheels of my E92 325 to clean up & repaint the hubs which are showing slight rusting that is visible thro' the alloys & is annoying me :mad: . Plus I always like to get the rims of a couple of times a year to give them a proper clean

As the E92 has RFT's & hence no jack has anyone got any tips/advice etc. The handbook just shows the jacking points. I've got access to a trolley jack. I believe BMW do a jack kit (from reading posts from the US) but I suspect it's dear for what it is.

A jack is a jack. Just about any that can take 1.5 tons should do.

The wheel chock that was supplied with earlier BMs was a also a very useful item and good safety feature when jacking up your car.

I again like to take the wheels off every now and then to give the inside of the rims a good clean.

Did you put anything in the plastic "insert" where the jack fits to prevent damage?

The plastic buffer/insert is 10 pence a piece. I just change them if they get too deformed.

. You don't know the part no by any chance so I can just go into the dealers & get them when needed?

Thats handy to know, Ive wrecked mine today jacking the car up for an oil change.

Another thing, the trolley jack lifting cup dug into the BMW insert on one side and I had a tough job freeing it off !

I use a piece of softwood to insert into the jacking point. I bought a length of wood from B&Q which only requires cutting to length. I also put a piece of thick carpet on the lifting part of the trolley jack.

Others have bought purpose made aluminium blocks (from guys in the US)

I just cut a block of wood and put in the cup - worked a treat. Did my hubs a couple of months ago for the same reason:

I used:
Wire Brush
240 grade paper (wish I'd used something a bit coarser)
White spirit (cleaning after the rubbing)
Halfords paint prep wipes (after white spirit clean)
Halford very high temperature paint, black (decided against silver as think it may show the brake dust & general road grime)
Medium & small brushes
Cellulose thiners (for cleaning the brushes)
Lots of elbow grease!

I've not got the steadiest of hands, so close up it's not as perfect as I like - but looks miles better once the 230's are back on.

Wheel back on

Decided to go with black so the brake dust doesn't show. Still look as good as the day I did them!

you can buy a proper jack kit from bmw for £90 comes with a torque preset 17mm socket and handle fits perfectly and wont damage your car
