BMW Advanced Safety Training - Munchen - April 2008

Alright guys, i know it's been a while but better later than never

I have attended the BMW Advanced Safety Training in Munchen at the end of April this year. It wasn't a very very nice experience where i personally learned a lot of new things and also experienced other theories about certain driving techniques that i already knew

The one day course was held on a BMW owned lot near the Munchen airport and the participation fee was 420.00 EUR which included the course itself and also 3 meals during the day.

There were 8 participants from all over the world. Great guys btw that shared the same passion, some of them already owned BMWs and some of them just planning on buying one (like me ).

We used 4 cars (and one for the instructor). 2 guys/car and we shifted turns. We had ’07 e90 330i, quite well equipped and with sport suspension. The rides were basically new with only 3-4000 km on the clock. The cars were equipped if snow tires. We were all very surprised but the instructor said they had snow 2 weeks before and that’s why they weren’t changed.

Detailed program overview:
8:00 AM Breakfast
8:30 – 10:00 theoretical training
10:00 – 13:00 Practicing Session which was based on applying the theoretical knowledge and was very interactive. We had to perform different maneuvers that allowed us to understand the usage and correct applying of ABS and/or steering. Things you thought you knew and seemed easy but couldn’t be performed well enough be any of us.

13:00 – 13:30 Lunch

13:30 – 17:30 Second Practicing Session; this one was even more interactive because we had apply what we learned about understeering and oversteering on a very very wet round portion of the tarmac track (it wasn’t really a track it was more like an open *******

The final “exercise” from this course was very exciting. There was a small circuit that we had to complete and the best time out of 3 laps was considered. I came first

It was a fabulous experience, we had a great time and although it was not that advanced it helped us to experience the theoretical facts that need to be known to insure safe driving.

This course really showed that BMW is not playing around with this kind of things!

I will definitely attend other courses from the Driver Training program. I’m thinking of Race Track Training, it’s a 2 day course on an M3 on the Nürburgring Nordschleife; what could be more exciting !!!

Anyway, I would recommend this to anyone!! It is an amazing experience.

And know, the PICS!!!!

Great write up Andrei, cant believe you waited 5 months to post it up.

I would have loved to have done a course like this. Ive done a driving course not long ago and it wasnt as good as this one but still enjoyable and came up with some tips id never heard of before.

So i can imagine this course allthough not all knew things to you, sharpened you up and gave you an insight you may have not seen before into different driving techniques when weather is wet or you encounter an oversteer/understeer or ABS inducing moment on the road.

Great pics also mate. How much is the Nurburgring M3 course? where do you hear of these course.

Now your all prepped ready for your 335D, woo

thanks Carlos!

Yes, you are right! This course sharpened up basic things that we knew but didn't apply correctly or didn't apply at all!

Here you can read about the courses and costs:

If you are interested in one of the M3 courses please let me know. I would be more than glad to join!

Can't wait to apply the things i've learned on my new ride that i will pick in 4 days!!!!!!!!!

Great pics and write-up Andrei!

Looks like you had a great time. The Race Track Training in an M3 at the Nordscheilfe sounds awesome. As I've already taken my own M3 round the Nordscheilfe, you could say I've partly done the course

I will definitiely go back to the Ring next year and hope to see you there!

Convincing your friends should be easy:

1) Do they like Road Trips? Even the journey there and back in a convoy of cars will be great fun!!

2) Do they want to see the most amzing Supercars up close?

3) Do they want to immerse themselves amongst other motoring enthusiasts?

4) Would they enjoy free passenger laps with others?

They don't necessarily need to take their car on the track if they don't want to. Just being there is worth the trip to soak up the atmosphere and have passenger laps with experienced "Ringers"

Should be easy for you to convince
