Which Radar Detector do you run?

I'm going to drop the dime on a unit- everyone extolls the virtues of V1. What about Passport or Vector 995? Anyone using? I'm expecially interested in the 995. thanks in advance.

V1 vs. Escort

I have an Escort (hardwired to keyed power in my fuse box). My dad has a V1. I've used them both and find that they perform identically. The direction arrows are nice on the V1, but I find the Escort much easier to read the bar scale and band indicator to determine if it is a cop or a false alarm.

My dad's V1 display also died after about 1 year.

I prefer the Escort.

I did extensive research and just purchased the Bel Pro RX65 last week. It is great! I think this one is identical to the escort 8500 x50 cause they are now the same company. Anyway, it just saved me from a ticket yesterday! It gave a solid 1/2 mile warning for a ny state trooper who was hiding behind a curve! I did not bother with the V1 because first: waaay more expensive then the above 2. And every single internet test i read, the above 2 performed just as good if not better than the V1, so for me the extra $150-200 did not justify having directional arrows.

Why do the traffic cops still use radar in the US ?
Surely laser technology is much more efficient ?

If your talking about the little L in the bogey counter. It displays an "A", a small "L" and a large "L"

A = power on, All bogey mode
Little L = power on, Logic mode
Large L = power on, Advance Logic mode

I usually use A on the highway and Large L in the city and on highways in major cities.

To change between them just push in the control knob for about 1-3 seconds and it will change to the next mode.

It gives a better description in the manual about them and how it uses each.

Also mine doesn't stay dim it will always shows me what mode I am in.

What he said, but red display for me.

If you have an old detector you can mail in they will credit your $50 and give you a second free power cord (cigarette adapter style or one for hard wiring). Not sure if the coupon is still good, but it's worth asking!

I got a great deal on it on a group buy-so I wasn't complaining.

glad to hear that

but the problem with V1 is that they dont have a 30day money back unlike Passport, w/c I got for a road trip to try out and return after if I dont like it.

I have a 8500 X50 blue. Saved me several times.

No idea how it performs against the V1. Understand that a lot of opinions aren't exactly objective. How someone can say that one is 'way better' than the other is beyond me unless they own a long stretch of road and a radar or Lidar unit and have spent a few days performing scientific tests. Magazine and online tests seem to be split between the 8500, V1 and the Bell unit.

Buy the one you like.
