So who exactly gets a BMW Loaner?

Even after making a request 3 weeks in advance AND telling Budds BMW that I would be willing to wait to fix my vehicle to receive a BMW loaner, once again they said no when I arrived.

Driving a POS Corolla. Makes me wonder. Who gets their precious loaners anyway? Do they actually exist? If a BMW loaner drives through a forest does it really exist?

Makes me think twice. Love the car but as a customer you are treated like you are inconviencing them! Are other name plates in the luxury segment just as bad? I had two audi's and there was never an issue.

What about Mercedes, Lexus or Infiniti?

I have been servicing my bmw's at Parkview since 2001 and I have never ever ever had a problem getting a loaner - and they have all been BMW's. And it hasn't mattered whether I purchased the car from them or not.

  1. depends on the dealer. dealers i know who provide loaners: waterloo, parkview, mississauga.
  2. never talk to service desk directly
  3. request service through your sales guy and request for loaner.
  4. sales dept. will shoulder the cost of loaner cars as marketing expense hoping to earn your business next time you lease again.

Definitely not Budds....
I've tried many times, with no luck.

If you're a 7 series owner looking to buy a 3 or a Mini for your kid... then you get the loaner to test it out...
... or so I've heard.

They are not giving them out to everyone, that's for sure. Everytime I ask for one (even when I'm booking well in advance), they said I can wait because it won't take long... but I can't because I have to go to work.

The last service I had they ended up giving me a credit for my rental because it took them awhile to get everything done.

Either way, they did not get good marks from me in the survey I got for this service.

BMW Loaners

I've asked quite a few times for a 5 series, but we always end up with a cheapo 323 loaner -- it makes us appreciate the 335 when we get it back

i just made an appointment for oct 6
i asked for something equivalent to my 335i

they said it might be a z4

something interesting he told me was that they have a
limited supply of loaners:customers

so means some wont be able to get a loaner EVEN if they do have a few cars handy

I always get a BMW loaner when I serviced my cars at the dealership.

Most of the times I get an E60.

The dealership that I go to is...........(drum roll)...........

....." BMW Autohaus " !!

(The funny thing is, of all the BMWs that we owned, we bought them all at Budd's, not a single one is from Autohaus.)

This debunks the myth that you have to purchase the vehicle from them in order to have them treat you right.

I guess all it takes is to build up the relationship with the service department, (through a period of time.) And don't forget one thing, if you bring in your car to them, no matter the costs for the service is from your own pocket or covered by BMW warranty, the service department of the dealership (as an individual entity not related to BMWNA) still got paid. That means YOU are bringing business to them, and YOU can always take your business elsewhere if you don't like how they treated you !!

To further illustrate my points and to answer the OP's question,

for other brands' services, I also drive a Rover and when I bring it to Land Rover Thornhill (almost next door to BMW Autohaus) for service, I get Jaguars for loaners.

So, I strongly believe that if you are not happy with what you received, you HAVE TO tell them !

Here's what I've learned. The next time you buy a BMW from a dealer, get them to include the loaners on your purchase contract. That should be a condition of the sale. If they don't want to write on the contract, then walk away.

That way the next time you are denied a loaner, whip out the contract and stick it in their face.

Thats actually an awesome idea, never thought of that.

btw, the only time ive had problems with loaners is with my FX...infiniti always has some bullshit excuse not to hand out loaners, one of the reasons why my next car is a E92 ...always heard about great service at parkview bmw

I have one every single time for the past 8 years, even when I take my jeep in with the extended warranty. I've had 323's, 328's and just recently a 335 for 4 days.

Wow, that's a surprise. Budd's is possibly one of the biggest and most well-known BMW stealerships in Ontario.

I Second that. Whenever I need work done, they are always the most expensive of all stealerships in the GTA. How stuipid are people?

I guess Oakville is full of rich old man driving 7 series with too much money and like to get boned.

So far BMW Mississsauga it the best for price negotiation and quality of work.

I've been getting 128i, 325i, 328i, X3, 525i, etc., as loaners from Maranello. Only catch is that I often have to wait 2 - 3 weeks for an appointment in order to get a loaner. They have a 100km per day mileage limit but they have never enforced that on me!

+1, BMW of Mississauga is by far the best. When I was searching around for my bimmer, all the other dealers gave me an estimated 3 month wait for the car to arrive, but Mississauga told me 7 weeks but I took delivery after 6 weeks.

I recently bought an '06 E90 330 after owning a Lexus IS300 for 6 years. In those 6 years, I can say nothing but GLOWING things about my Lexus dealership/service experience (Tony Graham Lexus in Ottawa). They ALWAYS had loaners available, even on short notice. They were usually slightly used ES300/330, but they were always Lexi. There was never any charge for the loaners, or for gas for that matter. They made me feel like it was all about ME, and that my convenience was the most important thing to them.

I've had my 330 into the shop several times since I bought it in May of this year (that's a whole different issue), and I must say that it's been a struggle to get loaners at my Ottawa dealership. On top of this, they charge $26-30 for loaners whether they are BMWs or other. They have very few BMWs, so you usually get an "other", if you are lucky enough to book waaaay ahead and get one at all.

So far, the dealer has waived the charges for the loaners since my repeat visits have been for the same problem, but I was quite shocked to see that they do charge for loaners for warranty work, and by the limited availability. And I agree, they really do make you feel like they are doing you a big favour by "arranging" for the RENTAL.

Based on this experience, I really wonder if I will buy another BMW. Although I feel that my 330 is a better driving car than my Lexus, I feel that the Lexus is better put together, and more importantly the dealer cares a hell of a lot more about my business.

FYI, my BMW purchase experience for this car was not a positive one either (different dealership in different city). I am STILL waiting for repairs that were to be done prior to my taking possession of the car to be completed. Again, this is the opposite experience of when I purchased my Lexus, where I am still treated like royalty.

just my $0.02.

I think this is unfortunately dealer and salesperson specific.

Service was a tremendous issue for me when I was looking for a new car (prior BMW experience was less than stellar), so when I stepped back into a BMW dealership when considering a new car, they were appropriately apologetic, and offered a home pickup and loaner delivery for all future service req'd. I thought this was fantastic as I can't stand waiting.

I know others who have been treated to this type of service, but I'm not sure how common this is.

I realize that every dealer is only as good as the people that work there but this is the 3rd time I have heard about lexus service being super positive. Agree the lexus is a very different ride but at some point you say to yourself is this BMW treatment worth all the BS? I have had 2 BMW's and the service has always been adversarial. You need to prepare yourself for a condesending attititude and BS excuses..........perhaps I am getting to the point where enough is enough........argh!
