exhaust break-in, myth or reality

I've done a few searches on this but haven't found much.

Just installed a Borla exhaust (2nd gen) and notice a little more droning than I would like. I also noticed a few posts that claim that the exhaust sound will change during the "break-in" period of 2-3K miles.

Is this true? Should I expect any changes in sound quality or drone levels after the first 2-3K miles?

If so, what has to break-in exactly? It's a pipe and a muffler...

Thanks

The tone will change a little over time as the packing in the muffler breaks down a bit. It's not going to be huge difference though and I wouldn't expect it to help the droning.

there is definitely a break-in period for exhausts! there was a definitely change in tone with both my eisenmann race (M3) and bastuck (335)...but i thought the changes were both for the better

do you have clips of the borla?

In my experience all of my exhausts have gotten slightly deeper and louder over time, and they usually drone more if anything, not less.

exhaust break-in

OK, thanks everyone. I'll guess I'll wait to see what happens. Will post some clips after I get some miles accumulated.

Yes, the Borla will change tone after a month or two. In my case, as long as I keep it above 2500RPM, there's no drone.

the cp-e exhaust gets more bass and a little quieter within the first 100 miles. I've had two of them. 2-3K miles is ridiculous.
